Let ${\mathscr {G}} $ be a special parahoric group scheme of twisted type over the ring of formal power series over $\mathbb {C}$, excluding the absolutely special case of $A^{(2)}_{2\ell }$. Using the methods and results of Zhu, we prove a duality theorem for general ${\mathscr {G}} $: there is a duality between the level one twisted affine Demazure modules and the function rings of certain torus fixed point subschemes in affine Schubert varieties for ${\mathscr {G}} $. Along the way, we also establish the duality theorem for $E_6$. As a consequence, we determine the smooth locus of any affine Schubert variety in the affine Grassmannian of ${\mathscr {G}} $. In particular, this confirms a conjecture of Haines and Richarz.

We prove lower bounds on the density of regular minimal cones of dimension less than seven provided the complements of the cones are topologically nontrivial.

Given a symmetric monoidal category ${\mathcal C}$ with product $\sqcup $, where the neutral element for the product is an initial object, we consider the poset of $\sqcup $-complemented subobjects of a given object X. When this poset has finite height, we define decompositions and partial decompositions of X which are coherent with $\sqcup $, and order them by refinement. From these posets, we define complexes of frames and partial bases, augmented Bergman complexes and related ordered versions. We propose a unified approach to the study of their combinatorics and homotopy type, establishing various properties and relations between them. Via explicit homotopy formulas, we will be able to transfer structural properties, such as Cohen-Macaulayness.

In well-studied scenarios, the poset of $\sqcup $-complemented subobjects specializes to the poset of free factors of a free group, the subspace poset of a vector space, the poset of nondegenerate subspaces of a vector space with a nondegenerate form, and the lattice of flats of a matroid. The decomposition and partial decomposition posets, the complex of frames and partial bases together with the ordered versions, either coincide with well-known structures, generalize them, or yield new interesting objects. In these particular cases, we provide new results along with open questions and conjectures.

Nakamura and Tsuji recently obtained an integral inequality involving a Laplace transform of even functions that implies, at the limit, the Blaschke-Santaló inequality in its functional form. Inspired by their method, based on the Fokker-Planck semi-group, we extend the inequality to non-even functions. We consider a well-chosen centering procedure by studying the infimum over translations in a double Laplace transform. This requires a new look on the existing methods and leads to several observations of independent interest on the geometry of the Laplace transform. Application to reverse hypercontractivity is also given.

Following [1], given cardinals $\kappa <\lambda $, we say $\kappa $ is a club $\lambda $-Berkeley cardinal if for every transitive set N of size $<\lambda $ such that $\kappa \subseteq N$, there is a club $C\subseteq \kappa $ with the property that for every $\eta \in C$, there is an elementary embedding $j: N\rightarrow N$ with $\mathrm {crit }(j)=\eta $. We say $\kappa $ is $\nu $-club $\lambda $-Berkeley if $C\subseteq \kappa $ as above is a $\nu $-club. We say $\kappa $ is $\lambda $-Berkeley if C is unbounded in $\kappa $. We show that under $\textsf {AD}^{+}$, (1) every regular Suslin cardinal is $\omega $-club $\Theta $-Berkeley (see Theorem 7.1), (2) $\omega _1$ is club $\Theta $-Berkeley (see Theorem 3.1 and Theorem 7.1), and (3) the ’s are $\Theta $-Berkeley – in particular, $\omega _2$ is $\Theta $-Berkeley (see Remark 7.5).

Along the way, we represent regular Suslin cardinals in direct limits as cutpoint cardinals (see Theorem 5.1). This topic has been studied in [31] and [4], albeit from a different point of view. We also show that, assuming $V=L({\mathbb {R}})+{\textsf {AD}}$, $\omega _1$ is not $\Theta ^+$-Berkeley, so the result stated in the title is optimal (see Theorem 9.14 and Theorem 9.19).

We study infinite groups interpretable in power bounded T-convex, V-minimal or p-adically closed fields. We show that if G is an interpretable definably semisimple group (i.e., has no definable infinite normal abelian subgroups) then, up to a finite index subgroup, it is definably isogenous to a group $G_1\times G_2$, where $G_1$ is a K-linear group and $G_2$ is a $\mathbf {k}$-linear group. The analysis is carried out by studying the interaction of G with four distinguished sorts: the valued field K, the residue field $\mathbf {k}$, the value group $\Gamma $, and the closed $0$-balls $K/\mathcal {O}$.

We formulate Guo–Jacquet type fundamental lemma conjectures and arithmetic transfer conjectures for inner forms of $GL_{2n}$. Our main results confirm these conjectures for division algebras of invariant $1/4$ and $3/4$.

Quantum interactions exchanging different types of particles play a pivotal rôle in quantum many-body theory, but they are not sufficiently investigated from a mathematical perspective. Here, we consider a system made of two fermions and one boson, in order to study the effect of such an off-diagonal interaction term, having in mind the physics of cuprate superconductors. Additionally, our model also includes a generalized Hubbard interaction (i.e., a general local repulsion term for the fermions). Regarding pairing, exponentially localized dressed bound fermion pairs are shown to exist, and their effective dispersion relation is studied in detail. Scattering properties of the system are derived for two channels: the unbound and bound pair channels. We give particular attention to the regime of very large on-site (Hubbard) repulsions because this situation is relevant for cuprate superconductors.

We generalize Baker–Bowler’s theory of matroids over tracts to orthogonal matroids, define orthogonal matroids with coefficients in tracts in terms of Wick functions, orthogonal signatures, circuit sets and orthogonal vector sets, and establish basic properties on functoriality, duality and minors. Our cryptomorphic definitions of orthogonal matroids over tracts provide proofs of several representation theorems for orthogonal matroids. In particular, we give a new proof that an orthogonal matroid is regular if and only if it is representable over ${\mathbb F}_2$ and ${\mathbb F}_3$, which was originally shown by Geelen [16], and we prove that an orthogonal matroid is representable over the sixth-root-of-unity partial field if and only if it is representable over ${\mathbb F}_3$ and ${\mathbb F}_4$.

We prove almost global well-posedness for quasilinear strongly coupled wave-Klein-Gordon systems with small and localized data in two space dimensions. We assume only mild decay on the data at infinity as well as minimal regularity. We systematically investigate all the possible quadratic null form type quasilinear strong coupling nonlinearities.

A key feature of the paper is our new, robust approach to the vector field method, which enables us to work at minimal regularity and decay in a quasilinear setting, and which, we believe, can be applied for a much wider class of problems.

We prove that the mapping class group is not an h-cobordism invariant of high-dimensional manifolds by exhibiting h-cobordant manifolds whose mapping class groups have different cardinalities. In order to do so, we introduce a moduli space of ‘h-block’ bundles and understand its difference with the moduli space of ordinary block bundles.

For every positive integer n, we introduce a set ${\mathcal {T}}_n$ made of $(n+3)^2$ Wang tiles (unit squares with labeled edges). We represent a tiling by translates of these tiles as a configuration $\mathbb {Z}^2\to {\mathcal {T}}_n$. A configuration is valid if the common edge of adjacent tiles has the same label. For every $n\geq 1$, we show that the Wang shift ${\Omega }_n$, defined as the set of valid configurations over the tiles ${\mathcal {T}}_n$, is self-similar, aperiodic and minimal for the shift action. We say that $\{{\Omega }_n\}_{n\geq 1}$ is a family of metallic mean Wang shifts, since the inflation factor of the self-similarity of $\Omega _n$ is the positive root of the polynomial $x^2-nx-1$. This root is sometimes called the n-th metallic mean, and in particular, the golden mean when $n=1$, and the silver mean when $n=2$. When $n=1$, the set of Wang tiles ${\mathcal {T}}_1$ is equivalent to the Ammann aperiodic set of 16 Wang tiles.

Let k be a field finitely generated over its prime subfield. We prove that the quotient of the Brauer group of a product of varieties over k by the sum of the images of the Brauer groups of factors has finite exponent. The bulk of the proof concerns p-primary torsion in characteristic p. Our approach gives a more direct proof of the boundedness of the p-primary torsion of the Brauer group of an abelian variety, as recently proved by D’Addezio. We show that the transcendental Brauer group of a Kummer surface over k has finite exponent but can be infinite when k is an infinite field of positive characteristic. This answers a question of Zarhin and the author.

We introduce a set of axioms for locally topologically ordered quantum spin systems in terms of nets of local ground state projections, and we show they are satisfied by Kitaev’s Toric Code and Levin-Wen type models. For a locally topologically ordered spin system on $\mathbb {Z}^{k}$, we define a local net of boundary algebras on $\mathbb {Z}^{k-1}$, which provides a mathematically precise algebraic description of the holographic dual of the bulk topological order. We construct a canonical quantum channel so that states on the boundary quasi-local algebra parameterize bulk-boundary states without reference to a boundary Hamiltonian. As a corollary, we obtain a new proof of a recent result of Ogata [Oga24] that the bulk cone von Neumann algebra in the Toric Code is of type $\mathrm {II}$, and we show that Levin-Wen models can have cone algebras of type $\mathrm {III}$. Finally, we argue that the braided tensor category of DHR bimodules for the net of boundary algebras characterizes the bulk topological order in (2+1)D, and can also be used to characterize the topological order of boundary states.

A realization is a triple, $(A,b,c)$, consisting of a $d-$tuple, $A= (A_1, \cdots , A_d )$, $d\in \mathbb {N}$, of bounded linear operators on a separable, complex Hilbert space, $\mathcal {H}$, and vectors $b,c \in \mathcal {H}$. Any such realization defines an analytic non-commutative (NC) function in an open neighbourhood of the origin, $0:= (0, \cdots , 0)$, of the NC universe of $d-$tuples of square matrices of any fixed size. For example, a univariate realization, i.e., where A is a single bounded linear operator, defines a holomorphic function of a single complex variable, z, in an open neighbourhood of the origin via the realization formula $b^{*} (I-zA)^{-1} c$.

It is well known that an NC function has a finite-dimensional realization if and only if it is a non-commutative rational function that is defined at $0$. Such finite realizations contain valuable information about the NC rational functions they generate. By extending to infinite-dimensional realizations, we construct, study and characterize more general classes of analytic NC functions. In particular, we show that an NC function is (uniformly) entire if and only if it has a jointly compact and quasinilpotent realization. Restricting our results to one variable shows that a formal Taylor series extends globally to an entire or meromorphic function in the complex plane, $\mathbb {C}$, if and only if it has a realization whose component operator is compact and quasinilpotent, or compact, respectively. This motivates our definition of the field of global (uniformly) meromorphic NC functions as the field of fractions generated by NC rational expressions in the ring of NC functions with jointly compact realizations. This definition recovers the field of meromorphic functions in $\mathbb {C}$ when restricted to one variable.

Pursuing ideas in [6], we determine the isometry classes of unimodular lattices of rank $28$, as well as the isometry classes of unimodular lattices of rank $29$ without nonzero vectors of norm $\leq 2$. We also provide some invariant that allows to distinguish these lattices and to independently check with a computer that our lists are complete.

Given a simply connected manifold M, we completely determine which rational monomial Pontryagin numbers are attained by fiber homotopy trivial M-bundles over the k-sphere, provided that k is small compared to the dimension and the connectivity of M. Furthermore, we study the vector space of rational cobordism classes represented by such bundles. We give upper and lower bounds on its dimension, and we construct manifolds for which the lower bound is attained. Our proofs are based on the classical approach to studying diffeomorphism groups via block bundles and surgery theory, and we make use of ideas developed by Krannich–Kupers–Randal-Williams.

As an application, we show the existence of elements of infinite order in the homotopy groups of the spaces of positive Ricci and positive sectional curvature, provided that M is $\operatorname {Spin}$, has a nontrivial rational Pontryagin class and admits such a metric. This is done by constructing M-bundles over spheres with nonvanishing ${\hat {\mathcal {A}}}$-genus. Furthermore, we give a vanishing theorem for generalized Morita–Miller–Mumford classes for fiber homotopy trivial bundles over spheres.

In the appendix coauthored by Jens Reinhold, we investigate which classes of the rational oriented cobordism ring contain an element that fibers over a sphere of a given dimension.

The finite families of biorthogonal rational functions and orthogonal polynomials of Hahn type are interpreted algebraically in a unified way by considering the three-generated meta Hahn algebra and its finite-dimensional representations. The functions of interest arise as overlaps between eigensolutions of generalized and ordinary eigenvalue problems on the representation space. The orthogonality relations and bispectral properties naturally follow from the framework.

We prove a ‘Whitney’ presentation, and a ‘Coulomb branch’ presentation, for the torus equivariant quantum K theory of the Grassmann manifold $\mathrm {Gr}(k;n)$, inspired from physics, and stated in an earlier paper. The first presentation is obtained by quantum deforming the product of the Hirzebruch $\lambda _y$ classes of the tautological bundles. In physics, the $\lambda _y$ classes arise as certain Wilson line operators. The second presentation is obtained from the Coulomb branch equations involving the partial derivatives of a twisted superpotential from supersymmetric gauge theory. This is closest to a presentation obtained by Gorbounov and Korff, utilizing integrable systems techniques. Algebraically, we relate the Coulomb and Whitney presentations utilizing transition matrices from the (equivariant) Grothendieck polynomials to the (equivariant) complete homogeneous symmetric polynomials. Along the way, we calculate K-theoretic Gromov-Witten invariants of wedge powers of the tautological bundles on $\mathrm {Gr}(k;n)$, using the ‘quantum=classical’ statement.
