We show that the bar version of the $\text{Pin}(2)$-monopole Floer homology of a three-manifold $Y$ equipped with a self-conjugate spin$^{c}$ structure $\mathfrak{s}$ is determined by the triple cup product of $Y$ together with the Rokhlin invariants of the spin structures inducing $\mathfrak{s}$. This is a manifestation of mod $2$ index theory and can be interpreted as a three-dimensional counterpart of Atiyah’s classical results regarding spin structures on Riemann surfaces.

For the reductive dual pair (U(n, n), U(n, n)) over a p-adic field, we study the local theta correspondence for certain tempered representations in terms of R-groups. In the case we consider, the Langlands parameter is preserved, but, a twist occurs in the L-packet. Moreover this twist is determined by root numbers.

We construct new indecomposable elements in the higher Chow group $CH^2(A,1)$ of a principally polarized Abelian surface over a $p$-adic local field, which generalize an element constructed by Collino [Griffiths’ infinitesimal invariant and higher K-theory on hyperelliptic Jacobians, J. Algebraic Geom. 6 (1997), 393–415]. These elements are constructed using a generalization, due to Birkenhake and Wilhelm [Humbert surfaces and the Kummer plane, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 355 (2003), 1819–1841 (electronic)], of a classical construction of Humbert. They can be used to prove a non-Archimedean analogue of the Hodge-${\mathcal{D}}$-conjecture – namely, the surjectivity of the boundary map in the localization sequence – in the case where the Abelian surface has good and ordinary reduction.

We prove formulas for the number of Jordan blocks of the maximal size for local monodromies of one-parameter degenerations of complex algebraic varieties where the bound of the size comes from the monodromy theorem. In the case when the general fibers are smooth and compact, the proof calculates some part of the weight spectral sequence of the limit mixed Hodge structure of Steenbrink. In the singular case, we can prove a similar formula for the monodromy on the cohomology with compact supports, but not on the usual cohomology. We also show that the number can really depend on the position of singular points in the embedded resolution, even in the isolated singularity case, and hence there are no simple combinatorial formulas using the embedded resolution in general.

Let k be a local field with residue characteristic p. Let n be a prime-to-p integer. Consider a smooth, irreducible k-curve X. In this article, we study the subgroup of H3(k(X), μn[otimes]2) consisting of classes which are unramified on X. It is known to be isomorphic to H0(XZar, R3π*μn[otimes]2), where π: Xét → XZar is the canonical map. A purely topological description of this group is given, using the Berkovich analytification Xan of X. More precisely, denote by Y a smooth and irreducible Berkovich-analytic k-curve, by Ytop the underlying topological space, by Yét the étale-analytic site and by πan the canonical map Yét → Ytop. Let Δ be the skeleton of Y (it is a closed subset defined by Berkovich which is locally a finite graph). Then we show (th. 42) that H0(Ytop, R3πan*μn[otimes]2) is naturally isomorphic (through sort of a pointwise evaluation of cohomology classes) to the group of harmonic cochains defined on Δ with values in $Bbb Z$/n. Now, if X is a smooth algebraic k-curve the natural map H0(XZar, R3π*μn[otimes]2) → H0(Xantop, R3πan*μn[otimes]2) is shown to be an isomorphism (th. 5.2). It is a new formulation (for the case where X is proper) and a generalization (to open curves) of a result which was due to Kato. Moreover we use here some steps of Kato's proof, but not his whole result. So our method gives, for projective curves, a (partially) new proof of Kato's theorem.

Let $p\gt 2$ be prime, and let $F$ be a totally real field in which $p$ is unramified. We give a sufficient criterion for a $\mathrm{mod} \hspace{0.167em} p$ Galois representation to arise from a $\mathrm{mod} \hspace{0.167em} p$ Hilbert modular form of parallel weight one, by proving a ‘companion forms’ theorem in this case. The techniques used are a mixture of modularity lifting theorems and geometric methods. As an application, we show that Serre’s conjecture for $F$ implies Artin’s conjecture for totally odd two-dimensional representations over $F$.

Let π : X [xlarr ] Y be a good quotient of a smooth variety X by a reductive algebraic group G and 1[les ]k≤ dim (Y) an integer. We prove that if, locally, any invariant horizontal differential k-form on X (resp. any regular differential k-form on Y) is a Kähler differential form on Y then codim(Ysing)>k+1. We also prove that the dualizing sheaf on Y is the sheaf of invariant horizontal dim(Y)-forms.

We single out a large class of groups ${\rm {\boldsymbol {\mathscr {M}}}}$ for which the following unique prime factorization result holds: if $\Gamma _1,\ldots,\Gamma _n\in {\rm {\boldsymbol {\mathscr {M}}}}$ and $\Gamma _1\times \cdots \times \Gamma _n$ is measure equivalent to a product $\Lambda _1\times \cdots \times \Lambda _m$ of infinite icc groups, then $n \ge m$, and if $n = m$, then, after permutation of the indices, $\Gamma _i$ is measure equivalent to $\Lambda _i$, for all $1\leq i\leq n$. This provides an analogue of Monod and Shalom's theorem [Orbit equivalence rigidity and bounded cohomology, Ann. of Math. 164 (2006), 825–878] for groups that belong to ${\rm {\boldsymbol {\mathscr {M}}}}$. Class ${\rm {\boldsymbol {\mathscr {M}}}}$ is constructed using groups whose von Neumann algebras admit an s-malleable deformation in the sense of Sorin Popa and it contains all icc non-amenable groups $\Gamma$ for which either (i) $\Gamma$ is an arbitrary wreath product group with amenable base or (ii) $\Gamma$ admits an unbounded 1-cocycle into its left regular representation. Consequently, we derive several orbit equivalence rigidity results for actions of product groups that belong to ${\rm {\boldsymbol {\mathscr {M}}}}$. Finally, for groups $\Gamma$ satisfying condition (ii), we show that all embeddings of group von Neumann algebras of non-amenable inner amenable groups into $L(\Gamma )$ are ‘rigid’. In particular, we provide an alternative solution to a question of Popa that was recently answered by Ding, Kunnawalkam Elayavalli, and Peterson [Properly Proximal von Neumann Algebras, Preprint (2022), arXiv:2204.00517].

In this article we construct a p-adic three-dimensional eigenvariety for the group $U$(2,1)($E$), where $E$ is a quadratic imaginary field and $p$ is inert in $E$. The eigenvariety parametrizes Hecke eigensystems on the space of overconvergent, locally analytic, cuspidal Picard modular forms of finite slope. The method generalized the one developed in Andreatta, Iovita and Stevens [$p$-adic families of Siegel modular cuspforms Ann. of Math. (2) 181, (2015), 623–697] by interpolating the coherent automorphic sheaves when the ordinary locus is empty. As an application of this construction, we reprove a particular case of the Bloch–Kato conjecture for some Galois characters of $E$, extending the results of Bellaiche and Chenevier to the case of a positive sign.

We show that the only summands of the theta divisor on Jacobians of curves and on intermediate Jacobians of cubic threefolds are the powers of the curve and the Fano surface of lines on the threefold. The proof only uses the decomposition theorem for perverse sheaves, some representation theory and the notion of characteristic cycles.

We prove the analogue of the Ax–Lindemann–Weierstrass theorem for not necessarily arithmetic lattices of the automorphism group of the complex unit ball $\mathbb{B}^{n}$ using methods of several complex variables, algebraic geometry and Kähler geometry. Consider a torsion-free lattice $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}\,\subset \,\text{Aut}(\mathbb{B}^{n})$ and the associated uniformization map $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}:\mathbb{B}^{n}\rightarrow \mathbb{B}^{n}/\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}=:X_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}}$. Given an algebraic subset $S\,\subset \,\mathbb{B}^{n}$ and writing $Z$ for the Zariski closure of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}(S)$ in $X_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}}$ (which is equipped with a canonical quasi-projective structure), in some precise sense we realize $Z$ as a variety uniruled by images of algebraic subsets under the uniformization map, and study the asymptotic geometry of an irreducible component $\widetilde{Z}$ of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}^{-1}(Z)$ as $\widetilde{Z}$ exits the boundary $\unicode[STIX]{x2202}\mathbb{B}^{n}$ by exploiting the strict pseudoconvexity of $\mathbb{B}^{n}$, culminating in the proof that $\widetilde{Z}\,\subset \,\mathbb{B}^{n}$ is totally geodesic. Our methodology sets the stage for tackling problems in functional transcendence theory for arbitrary lattices of $\text{ Aut}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA})$ for (possibly reducible) bounded symmetric domains $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}$.

In this paper, we present a solution to the problem of the analytic classification of germs of plane curves with several irreducible components. Our algebraic approach follows precursive ideas of Oscar Zariski and as a subproduct allows us to recover some particular cases found in the literature.

Let M be a projective manifold, p: MG→M a regular covering over M with a free Abelian transformation group G. We describe the holomorphic functions on MG of an exponential growth with respect to the distance defined by a metric pulled back from M. As a corollary, we obtain Cartwright and Liouville-type theorems for such functions. Our approach brings together the L2 cohomology technique for holomorphic vector bundles on complete Kähler manifolds and the geometric properties of projective manifolds.

Investigating a conjecture of Zannier, we study irreducible subvarieties of abelian schemes that dominate the base and contain a Zariski dense set of torsion points that lie on pairwise isogenous fibers. If everything is defined over the algebraic numbers and the abelian scheme has maximal variation, we prove that the geometric generic fiber of such a subvariety is a union of torsion cosets. We go on to prove fully or partially explicit versions of this result in fibered powers of the Legendre family of elliptic curves. Finally, we apply a recent result of Galateau and Martínez to obtain uniform bounds on the number of maximal torsion cosets in the Manin–Mumford problem across a given isogeny class. For the proofs, we adapt the strategy, due to Lang, Serre, Tate, and Hindry, of using Galois automorphisms that act on the torsion as homotheties to the family setting.

We study the torsion in the Mordell-Weil group of the Jacobian of the Fermat curve of exponent $p$ over the cyclotomic field obtained by adjoining a primitive $p$-th root of 1 to $Q$. We show that for all (except possibly one) proper subfields of this cyclotomic field, the torsion parts of the corresponding Mordell-Weil groups are elementary abelian $p$-groups.

We prove the Hasse principle for a smooth projective variety $X\subset \mathbb {P}^{n-1}_\mathbb {Q}$ defined by a system of two cubic forms $F,G$ as long as $n\geq 39$. The main tool here is the development of a version of Kloosterman refinement for a smooth system of equations defined over $\mathbb {Q}$.

This is the second of a series of two papers dealing with local limit theorems in relatively hyperbolic groups. In this second paper, we restrict our attention to non-spectrally degenerate random walks and we prove precise asymptotics of the probability $p_n(e,e)$ of going back to the origin at time $n$. We combine techniques adapted from thermodynamic formalism with the rough estimates of the Green function given by part I to show that $p_n(e,e)\sim CR^{-n}n^{-3/2}$, where $R$ is the inverse of the spectral radius of the random walk. This both generalizes results of Woess for free products and results of Gouëzel for hyperbolic groups.

The Hamiltonian shape invariant of a domain $X \subset \mathbb {R}^4$, as a subset of $\mathbb {R}^2$, describes the product Lagrangian tori which may be embedded in $X$. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions to determine whether or not a path in the shape invariant can lift, that is, be realized as a smooth family of embedded Lagrangian tori, when $X$ is a basic $4$-dimensional toric domain such as a ball $B^4(R)$, an ellipsoid $E(a,b)$ with ${b}/{a} \in \mathbb {N}_{\geq ~2}$, or a polydisk $P(c,d)$. As applications, via the path lifting, we can detect knotted embeddings of product Lagrangian tori in many toric $X$. We also obtain novel obstructions to symplectic embeddings between domains that are more general than toric concave or toric convex.
