Can there be two Antispila miners of the Dog-wood? Either there must be, and my specimens are specifically distinct from this species, or Dr. Clements' description is strangely erroneous in at least one particular, viz., the color of the fascia and streaks, which he says are golden in cornifoleilla, but which are silvery white in my specimens, all of which six in number–agree exactly in ornamentation, and all but one of which are bred specimens. The species of the genus generally resemble each other very closely, and some recognized species do not differ from each other more than my specimens do from Dr. Clemens' description.

The following organs were investigated histologically for evidence of neurosecretion during the adult life of Bombus fervidus queens: supra- and sub-oesophageal ganglia, frontal ganglion, ventral nerve cord, corpora cardiaca, and corpora allata. The anatomy and histology of these organs are described, along with the secretory products found in the median neurosccrerory cells. A type of neurosecretion that seems unique to Hymenoptera and that appears later in the life of the queen is discussed.

The following table contains all the species of Thereva known to me as occurring in this country north of Mexico. Thereva tergissa, Say. (corusca, Weid.), and T. crassicornis, Will (non Bellardi), belong to Psilocephala.

The preceding part under this title was published in 1947 (Can. Ent., 78: 155-159). At this time I am describing four species of the genus Tipula from Arizona and California, the types being preserved in my collection except where indicated to the contrary in the text.

Altica subcostata sp.nov. is described and illustrated. This flea beetle feeds on Betula spp. and is recorded from Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia.

The specimens are hardly to be distinguished from Eastern material; they are perhaps a little larger, and of a little different tone of color. My determination of this species as lycarum H.-S., based on a figure, is probably incorrect. It seems possible that Harris has described. A. Cochranii under the name messoria, which should then be retained. More Material of A. fuscigerus (ante No. 15) shows that this is a good but variable species, both in size and color. There is always a uniformity in the disposition of the ground tint over the primaries above, and usually the broad inner lunulations of the t. p. line and the median shade are characteristic.

This paper includes descriptions of a new genus and a new species of the hymenopterous family Aphidiidae, which are primary parasites of aphids (Homoptera: Aphidoidea). The new genus, Boreogalba, belongs to the subtribe Trioxina and represents a primitive sideline of the Trioxys-Binodoxys group.

Lyctocoris mexicanus new species is described from Durango, Mexico. Genital structures are compared to those of two closely related species, L. okanaganus Kelt. & And., and tuberosus Kelt. & And., and to those of elongatus (Reut.).

Feeding adults of the Oriental fruit moth, Grapholitha molesta (Busck), on a tagging solution of P32 containing 20–50 μc./ml. had no apparent effect on their longevity, mating, fecundity, and motility or on the viability of their eggs. The rate of 20–50 μc./ml. was in the range used for dispersal studies. Moths thus tagged had radioactivities of about 1500–2500 c.p.m.

Female moths fed on solutions of P32 at 100 μc./ml. showed counting rates of more than 5000 c.p.m. These females, when mated with normal males, laid approximately 33% fewer eggs than normal females. Also, the fertility of the eggs was reduced by about 25% when only the female parent was radioactive and 15% when only the male parent was radioactive to the extent of over 5000 c.p.m.

Emergence of apple maggot adults, Rhagoletis pomonella Walsh, under field conditions at Guelph, Ontario, revealed that most maggots emerged from the apples between 2 July and 11 August. However, 12 of 673 emerged benveen 17 August and 16 September. Because this extended period of maggot emergence creates problems in visual certification of maggot-free export fruit, attempts were made to find a more effective trapping method than the use of bait pails for appraising maggot infestations.

The lateness of the hour will prevent my taking time to add to Professor Baker's admirable history many personal recollections of the founders of the Society and of its early activities. Dr. W. E. Saunders, the secretary for a number of years, and I belong to the second generation of active members; however for a period of fifteen or more years we were associated with the pioneers who well and truly laid the foundation of the Society.
