Let C_c^{*}(\mathbb{N}^{2})$C_c^{*}(\mathbb{N}^{2})$ be the universal C^{*}$C^{*}$-algebra generated by a semigroup of isometries \{v_{(m,n)}\,:\, m,n \in \mathbb{N}\}$\{v_{(m,n)}\,:\, m,n \in \mathbb{N}\}$ whose range projections commute. We analyse the structure of KMS states on C_{c}^{*}(\mathbb{N}^2)$C_{c}^{*}(\mathbb{N}^2)$ for the time evolution determined by a homomorphism c\,:\,\mathbb{Z}^{2} \to \mathbb{R}$c\,:\,\mathbb{Z}^{2} \to \mathbb{R}$. In contrast to the reduced version C_{red}^{*}(\mathbb{N}^{2})$C_{red}^{*}(\mathbb{N}^{2})$, we show that the set of KMS states on C_{c}^{*}(\mathbb{N}^{2})$C_{c}^{*}(\mathbb{N}^{2})$ has a rich structure. In particular, we exhibit uncountably many extremal KMS states of type I, II and III.

It is well known that the category of comodules over a flat Hopf algebroid is abelian but typically fails to have enough projectives, and more generally, the category of graded comodules over a graded flat Hopf algebroid is abelian but typically fails to have enough projectives. In this short paper, we prove that the category of connective graded comodules over a connective, graded, flat, finite-type Hopf algebroid has enough projectives. Applications to algebraic topology are given: the Hopf algebroids of stable co-operations in complex bordism, Brown–Peterson homology, and classical mod p homology all have the property that their categories of connective graded comodules have enough projectives. We also prove that categories of connective graded comodules over appropriate Hopf algebras fail to be equivalent to categories of graded connective modules over a ring.

Pirashvili’s Dold–Kan type theorem for finite pointed sets follows from the identification in terms of surjections of the morphisms between the tensor powers of a functor playing the role of the augmentation ideal; these functors are projective. We give an unpointed analogue of this result: namely, we compute the morphisms between the tensor powers of the corresponding functor in the unpointed context. We also calculate the Ext groups between such objects, in particular showing that these functors are not projective; this is an important difference between the pointed and unpointed contexts. This work is motivated by our functorial analysis of the higher Hochschild homology of a wedge of circles.

Let K be an infinite field of characteristic p>0$p>0$ and let \lambda, \mu$\lambda, \mu$ be partitions, where \mu$\mu$ has two parts. We find sufficient arithmetic conditions on p, \lambda, \mu$p, \lambda, \mu$ for the existence of a nonzero homomorphism \Delta(\lambda) \to \Delta (\mu)$\Delta(\lambda) \to \Delta (\mu)$ of Weyl modules for the general linear group GL_n(K)$GL_n(K)$. Also, for each p we find sufficient conditions so that the corresponding homomorphism spaces have dimension at least 2.

We discuss practical methods for computing the space of solutions to an arbitrary homogeneous linear system of partial differential equations with constant coefficients. These rest on the Fundamental Principle of Ehrenpreis–Palamodov from the 1960s. We develop this further using recent advances in computational commutative algebra.

The finite dual H^{\circ}$H^{\circ}$ of an affine commutative-by-finite Hopf algebra H is studied. Such a Hopf algebra H is an extension of an affine commutative Hopf algebra A by a finite dimensional Hopf algebra \overline{H}$\overline{H}$ . The main theorem gives natural conditions under which H^{\circ}$H^{\circ}$ decomposes as a crossed or smash product of \overline{H}^{\ast}$\overline{H}^{\ast}$ by the finite dual A^{\circ}$A^{\circ}$ of A. This decomposition is then further analysed using the Cartier–Gabriel–Kostant theorem to obtain component Hopf subalgebras of H^{\circ}$H^{\circ}$ mapping onto the classical components of A^{\circ}$A^{\circ}$ . The detailed consequences for a number of families of examples are then studied.

John Rognes developed a notion of Galois extension of commutative ring spectra, and this includes a criterion for identifying an extension as unramified. Ramification for commutative ring spectra can be detected by relative topological Hochschild homology and by topological André–Quillen homology. In the classical algebraic context, it is important to distinguish between tame and wild ramification. Noether’s theorem characterizes tame ramification in terms of a normal basis, and tame ramification can also be detected via the surjectivity of the trace map. For commutative ring spectra, we suggest to study the Tate construction as a suitable analog. It tells us at which integral primes there is tame or wild ramification, and we determine its homotopy type in examples in the context of topological K-theory and topological modular forms.

We determine the dimensions of \textrm{Ext}$\textrm{Ext}$-groups between simple modules and dual generalized Verma modules in singular blocks of parabolic versions of category \mathcal{O}$\mathcal{O}$ for complex semisimple Lie algebras and affine Kac-Moody algebras.

We characterize when a set of simple closed curves in an orientable surface forms a bouquet, in terms of relations between the corresponding Dehn twists.

The Horikawa index and the local signature are introduced for relatively minimal fibered surfaces whose general fiber is a non-hyperelliptic curve of genus 4 with unique trigonal structure.

We introduce and study a fermionisation procedure for the cohomological Hall algebra \mathcal{H}_{\Pi_Q}$\mathcal{H}_{\Pi_Q}$ of representations of a preprojective algebra, that selectively switches the cohomological parity of the BPS Lie algebra from even to odd. We do so by determining the cohomological Donaldson–Thomas invariants of central extensions of preprojective algebras studied in the work of Etingof and Rains, via deformed dimensional reduction. Via the same techniques, we determine the Borel–Moore homology of the stack of representations of the \unicode{x03BC}$\unicode{x03BC}$ -deformed preprojective algebra introduced by Crawley–Boevey and Holland, for all dimension vectors. This provides a common generalisation of the results of Crawley-Boevey and Van den Bergh on the cohomology of smooth moduli schemes of representations of deformed preprojective algebras and my earlier results on the Borel–Moore homology of the stack of representations of the undeformed preprojective algebra.

We study a family of finitely generated residually finite small-cancellation groups. These groups are quotients of F_2$F_2$ depending on a subset S$S$ of positive integers. Varying S$S$ yields continuously many groups up to quasi-isometry.

We prove the existence of a solution for a class of activator–inhibitor system of type - \Delta u +u = f(u) -v$- \Delta u +u = f(u) -v$ , -\Delta v+ v=u$-\Delta v+ v=u$ in \mathbb{R}^{N}$\mathbb{R}^{N}$ . The function f is a general nonlinearity which can grow polynomially in dimension N\geq 3$N\geq 3$ or exponentiallly if N=2$N=2$ . We are able to treat f when it has critical growth corresponding to the Sobolev space we work with. We transform the system into an equation with a nonlocal term. We find a critical point of the corresponding energy functional defined in the space of functions with norm endowed by a scalar product that takes into account such nonlocal term. For that matter, and due to the lack of compactness, we deal with weak convergent minimizing sequences and sequences of Lagrange multipliers of an action minima problem.

We classify all \mathbb{Q}$\mathbb{Q}$-factorial Fano intrinsic quadrics of dimension three and Picard number one having at most canonical singularities.

We initiate the study of C*-algebras and groupoids arising from left regular representations of Garside categories, a notion which originated from the study of Braid groups. Every higher rank graph is a Garside category in a natural way. We develop a general classification result for closed invariant subspaces of our groupoids as well as criteria for topological freeness and local contractiveness, properties which are relevant for the structure of the corresponding C*-algebras. Our results provide a conceptual explanation for previous results on gauge-invariant ideals of higher rank graph C*-algebras. As another application, we give a complete analysis of the ideal structures of C*-algebras generated by left regular representations of Artin–Tits monoids.

Recently Ovsienko and Tabachnikov considered extensions of Somos and Gale-Robinson sequences, defined over the algebra of dual numbers. Ovsienko used the same idea to construct so-called shadow sequences derived from other nonlinear recurrence relations exhibiting the Laurent phenomenon, with the original motivation being the hope that these examples should lead to an appropriate notion of a cluster superalgebra, incorporating Grassmann variables. Here, we present various explicit expressions for the shadow of Somos-4 sequences and describe the solution of a general Somos-4 recurrence defined over the \mathbb{C}$\mathbb{C}$ -algebra of dual numbers from several different viewpoints: analytic formulae in terms of elliptic functions, linear difference equations, and Hankel determinants.

In this note, we give a classification of the maximal order Abelian subgroups of finite irreducible Coxeter groups. We also prove a Weyl group analog of Cartan’s theorem that all maximal tori in a connected compact Lie group are conjugate.

In the present note, we establish a finiteness theorem for L^p$L^p$ harmonic 1-forms on hypersurfaces with finite index, which is an extension of the result of Choi and Seo (J. Geom. Phys. 129 (2018), 125–132).

A theorem of Brady and Meier states that a right-angled Artin group is a duality group if and only if the flag complex of the defining graph is Cohen–Macaulay. We use this to give an example of a RAAG with the property that its outer automorphism group is not a virtual duality group. This gives a partial answer to a question of Vogtmann. In an appendix, Brück describes how he used a computer-assisted search to find further examples.
