In this article we study integral models of Shimura varieties, called Pappas–Rapoport splitting model, for ramified P.E.L. Shimira data. We study the special fiber and some stratification of these models, in particular we show that these are smooth and the Rapoport locus and the $\mu $-ordinary locus are dense, under some condition on the ramification.
Rapoport–Zink spaces are deformation spaces for $p$-divisible groups with additional structure. At infinite level, they become preperfectoid spaces. Let ${{\mathscr M}}_{\infty }$ be an infinite-level Rapoport–Zink space of EL type, and let ${{\mathscr M}}_{\infty }^{\circ }$ be one connected component of its geometric fiber. We show that ${{\mathscr M}}_{\infty }^{\circ }$ contains a dense open subset which is cohomologically smooth in the sense of Scholze. This is the locus of $p$-divisible groups which do not have any extra endomorphisms. As a corollary, we find that the cohomologically smooth locus in the infinite-level modular curve $X(p^{\infty })^{\circ }$ is exactly the locus of elliptic curves $E$ with supersingular reduction, such that the formal group of $E$ has no extra endomorphisms.
In this article we construct a p-adic three-dimensional eigenvariety for the group $U$(2,1)($E$), where $E$ is a quadratic imaginary field and $p$ is inert in $E$. The eigenvariety parametrizes Hecke eigensystems on the space of overconvergent, locally analytic, cuspidal Picard modular forms of finite slope. The method generalized the one developed in Andreatta, Iovita and Stevens [$p$-adic families of Siegel modular cuspforms Ann. of Math. (2) 181, (2015), 623–697] by interpolating the coherent automorphic sheaves when the ordinary locus is empty. As an application of this construction, we reprove a particular case of the Bloch–Kato conjecture for some Galois characters of $E$, extending the results of Bellaiche and Chenevier to the case of a positive sign.
Let $(G,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$ be a pair of a reductive group $G$ over the $p$-adic integers and a minuscule cocharacter $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$ of $G$ defined over an unramified extension. We introduce and study ‘$(G,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$-displays’ which generalize Zink’s Witt vector displays. We use these to define certain Rapoport–Zink formal schemes purely group theoretically, i.e. without $p$-divisible groups.
Let $F$ be a totally real field in which a prime $p$ is unramified. We define the Goren–Oort stratification of the characteristic-$p$ fiber of a quaternionic Shimura variety of maximal level at $p$. We show that each stratum is a $(\mathbb{P}^{1})^{r}$-bundle over other quaternionic Shimura varieties (for an appropriate integer $r$). As an application, we give a necessary condition for the ampleness of a modular line bundle on a quaternionic Shimura variety in characteristic $p$.
We define truncated displays over rings in which a prime $p$ is nilpotent, we associate crystals to truncated displays, and we define functors from truncated displays to truncated Barsotti–Tate groups.
Fontaine described the category of formal groups over the ring of Witt vectors over a finite field of characteristic $p$ with the aid of triples consisting of the module of logarithms, the Dieudonné module, and the morphism from the former to the latter. We propose an explicit construction for the kernels in this category in term of Fontaine's triples. The construction is applied to the formal norm homomorphism in the case of an unramified extension of ${{\mathbb{Q}}_{p}}$ and of a totally ramified extension of degree less or equal than $p$. A similar consideration applied to a global extension allows us to establish the existence of a strict isomorphism between the formal norm torus and a formal group law coming from $L$-series.
In this article we explain how the results in our previous article on ‘algebraic Hecke characters and compatible systems of mod $p$ Galois representations over global fields’ allow one to attach a Hecke character to every cuspidal Drinfeld modular eigenform from its associated crystal that was constructed in earlier work of the author. On the technical side, we prove along the way a number of results on endomorphism rings of ${\it\tau}$-sheaves and crystals. These are needed to exhibit the close relation between Hecke operators as endomorphisms of crystals on the one side and Frobenius automorphisms acting on étale sheaves associated to crystals on the other. We also present some partial results on the ramification of Hecke characters associated to Drinfeld modular eigenforms. An important phenomenon absent from the case of classical modular forms is that ramification can also result from places of modular curves of good but non-ordinary reduction. In an appendix, jointly with Centeleghe we prove some basic results on $p$-adic Galois representations attached to $\text{GL}_{2}$-type cuspidal automorphic forms over global fields of characteristic $p$.
Let R be a complete rank-1 valuation ring of mixed characteristic (0, p), and let K be its field of fractions. A g-dimensional truncated Barsotti–Tate group G of level n over R is said to have a level-n canonical subgroup if there is a K-subgroup of G ⊗RK with geometric structure (Z/pnZ)g consisting of points ‘closest to zero’. We give a non-trivial condition on the Hasse invariant of G that guarantees the existence of the canonical subgroup, analogous to a result of Katz and Lubin for elliptic curves. The bound is independent of the height and dimension of G.
A p-divisible group over a complete local domain determines a Galois representation on the Tate module of its generic fibre. We determine the image of this representation for the universal deformation in mixed characteristic of a bi-infinitesimal group and for the p-rank strata of the universal deformation in positive characteristic of an infinitesimal group. The method is a reduction to the known case of one-dimensional groups by a deformation argument based on properties of the stratification by Newton polygons.
For every prime p and integer n≥3 we explicitly construct an abelian variety of dimension n such that for a suitable prime l the group of quasi-isogenies of of l-power degree is canonically a dense subgroup of the nth Morava stabilizer group at p. We also give a variant of this result taking into account a polarization. This is motivated by the recent construction by Behrens and Lawson of topological automorphic forms which generalizes topological modular forms. For this, we prove some arithmetic results of independent interest: a result about approximation of local units in maximal orders of global skew fields which also gives a precise solution to the problem of extending automorphisms of the p-divisible group of a simple abelian variety over a finite field to quasi-isogenies of the abelian variety of degree divisible by as few primes as possible.
