In this paper, we first describe the cohomology theory of Lie supertriple systems by using the cohomology theory of the associated Leibniz superalgebras. Then we focus on Lie supertriple systems with superderivations, called LSTSDer pairs. We introduce the notion of representations of LSTSDer pairs and investigate their corresponding cohomology theory. We also construct a differential graded Lie algebra whose Maurer–Cartan elements are LSTSDer pairs. Moreover, we consider the relationship between a LSTSDer pair and the associated LeibSDer pair. Furthermore, we develop the 1-parameter formal deformation theory of LSTSDer pairs and prove that it is governed by the cohomology groups. At last, we study abelian extensions of LSTSDer pairs and show that equivalent abelian extensions of LSTSDer pairs are classified by the third cohomology groups.

We introduce a generating function approach to the affine Brauer and Kauffman categories, and show how it allows one to efficiently recover important sets of relations in these categories. We use this formalism to deduce restrictions on possible categorical actions and show how this recovers admissibility results that have appeared in the literature on cyclotomic Birman–Murakami–Wenzl (BMW) algebras and their degenerate versions, also known as cyclotomic Nazarov–Wenzl algebras or VW algebras.

This article focuses on the representation theory of algebras associated with $\mathfrak {sl}_2$, including the affine Lie algebra $\widehat {\mathfrak {sl}_2}$, the affine Kac–Moody algebra $\widetilde {\mathfrak {sl}_2}$, and the affine-Virasoro algebra $\mathfrak {Vir}\ltimes \widehat {\mathfrak {sl}_2}$. First, we classify certain modules over these algebras, which are free of rank one when restricted to some specific subalgebras. We demonstrate a connection between these modules and modules over the Weyl algebras, which allows us to construct large families of modules that are free of arbitrary finite rank when restricted to the Cartan subalgebra. We then investigate the simplicity of these modules. For reducible modules, we fully characterize their composition factors. Through a comparison with existing simple modules in the literature, we have identified a novel family of simple modules over the affine Kac–Moody algebra $\widetilde {\mathfrak {sl}_2}$. Finally, we turn our attention to a class of tensor product modules over the affine-Virasoro algebra $\mathfrak {Vir}\ltimes \widehat {\mathfrak {sl}_2}$. We derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the simplicity of these modules and determine their isomorphism classes.

We introduce the notion of integrable modules over $\imath $quantum groups (a.k.a. quantum symmetric pair coideal subalgebras). After determining a presentation of such modules, we prove that each integrable module over a quantum group is integrable when restricted to an $\imath $quantum group. As an application, we show that the space of matrix coefficients of all simple integrable modules over an $\imath $quantum group of finite type with specific parameters coincides with Bao-Song’s coordinate ring of the $\imath $quantum group.

We give a crystal structure on the set of Gelfand–Tsetlin patterns (GTPs), which parametrize bases for finite-dimensional irreducible representations of the general linear Lie algebra. The crystal data are given in closed form and are expressed using tropical polynomial functions of the entries of the patterns. We prove that with this crystal structure, the natural bijection between GTPs and semistandard Young tableaux is a crystal isomorphism.

In this paper, we show that for a large natural class of vertex operator algebras (VOAs) and their modules, the Zhu’s algebras and bimodules (and their g-twisted analogs) are Noetherian. These carry important information about the representation theory of the VOA, and its fusion rules, and the Noetherian property gives the potential for (non-commutative) algebro-geometric methods to be employed in their study.

We give a complete combinatorial classification of the parabolic Verma modules in the principal block of the parabolic category $\mathcal{O}$ associated with a minimal or a maximal parabolic subalgebra of the special linear Lie algebra for which the answer to Kostant’s problem is positive.

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be the queer superalgebra $\operatorname {\mathfrak{q}}(n)$ over the field of complex numbers $\mathbb C$. For any associative, commutative, and finitely generated $\mathbb C$-algebra A with unity, we consider the loop Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{g} \otimes A$. We define a class of central operators for $\mathfrak{g} \otimes A$, which generalizes the classical Gelfand invariants. We show that they generate the algebra $U(\mathfrak{g} \otimes A)^{\mathfrak{g}}$. We also show that there are no non-trivial $\mathfrak{g}$-invariants of $U(\mathfrak{g} \otimes A)$ where $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{p}(n)$, the periplectic Lie superalgebra.

In this paper, we develop two new homological invariants called relative dominant dimension with respect to a module and relative codominant dimension with respect to a module. Among the applications are precise connections between Ringel duality, split quasi-hereditary covers and double centralizer properties, constructions of split quasi-hereditary covers of quotients of Iwahori-Hecke algebras using Ringel duality of q-Schur algebras and a new proof for Ringel self-duality of the blocks of the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand category $\mathcal {O}$. These homological invariants are studied over Noetherian algebras which are finitely generated and projective as a module over the ground ring. They are shown to behave nicely under change of rings techniques.

We introduce a diagrammatic monoidal category, the spin Brauer category, that plays the same role for the spin and pin groups as the Brauer category does for the orthogonal groups. In particular, there is a full functor from the spin Brauer category to the category of finite-dimensional modules for the spin and pin groups. This functor becomes essentially surjective after passing to the Karoubi envelope, and its kernel is the tensor ideal of negligible morphisms. In this way, the spin Brauer category can be thought of as an interpolating category for the spin and pin groups. We also define an affine version of the spin Brauer category, which acts on categories of modules for the pin and spin groups via translation functors.

We compute the Jantzen filtration of a $\mathcal {D}$-module on the flag variety of $\operatorname {\mathrm {SL}}_2(\mathbb {C})$. At each step in the computation, we illustrate the $\mathfrak {sl}_2(\mathbb {C})$-module structure on global sections to give an algebraic picture of this geometric computation. We conclude by showing that the Jantzen filtration on the $\mathcal {D}$-module agrees with the algebraic Jantzen filtration on its global sections, demonstrating a famous theorem of Beilinson and Bernstein.

In this paper, we investigate extensions between graded Verma modules in the Bernstein–Gelfand–Gelfand category $\mathcal{O}$. In particular, we determine exactly which information about extensions between graded Verma modules is given by the coefficients of the R-polynomials. We also give some upper bounds for the dimensions of graded extensions between Verma modules in terms of Kazhdan–Lusztig combinatorics. We completely determine all extensions between Verma module in the regular block of category $\mathcal{O}$ for $\mathfrak{sl}_4$ and construct various “unexpected” higher extensions between Verma modules.

In Cartan’s PhD thesis, there is a formula defining a certain rank 8 vector distribution in dimension 15, whose algebra of authomorphism is the split real form of the simple exceptional complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak {f}_4$. Cartan’s formula is written in the standard Cartesian coordinates in $\mathbb {R}^{15}$. In the present paper, we explain how to find analogous formulae for the flat models of any bracket generating distribution $\mathcal D$ whose symbol algebra $\mathfrak {n}({\mathcal D})$ is constant and 2-step graded, $\mathfrak {n}({\mathcal D})=\mathfrak {n}_{-2}\oplus \mathfrak {n}_{-1}$.

The formula is given in terms of a solution to a certain system of linear algebraic equations determined by two representations $(\rho ,\mathfrak {n}_{-1})$ and $(\tau ,\mathfrak {n}_{-2})$ of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak {n}_{00}$ contained in the $0$th order Tanaka prolongation $\mathfrak {n}_0$ of $\mathfrak {n}({\mathcal D})$.

Numerous examples are provided, with particular emphasis put on the distributions with symmetries being real forms of simple exceptional Lie algebras $\mathfrak {f}_4$ and $\mathfrak {e}_6$.

In this paper we produce infinite families of counterexamples to Jantzen's question posed in 1980 on the existence of Weyl $p$-filtrations for Weyl modules for an algebraic group and Donkin's tilting module conjecture formulated in 1990. New techniques to exhibit explicit examples are provided along with methods to produce counterexamples in large rank from counterexamples in small rank. Counterexamples can be produced via our methods for all groups other than when the root system is of type ${\rm A}_{n}$ or ${\rm B}_{2}$.

We show that, for an arbitrary finite-dimensional quasi-reductive Lie superalgebra over ${\mathbb {C}}$ with a triangular decomposition and a character $\zeta $ of the nilpotent radical, the associated Backelin functor $\Gamma _\zeta $ sends Verma modules to standard Whittaker modules provided the latter exist. As a consequence, this gives a complete solution to the problem of determining the composition factors of the standard Whittaker modules in terms of composition factors of Verma modules in the category ${\mathcal {O}}$. In the case of the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras, we show that the Backelin functor $\Gamma _\zeta $ and its target category, respectively, categorify a q-symmetrizing map and the corresponding q-symmetrized Fock space associated with a quasi-split quantum symmetric pair of type $AIII$.

In this paper, we classify simple smooth modules over the mirror Heisenberg–Virasoro algebra ${\mathfrak {D}}$, and simple smooth modules over the twisted Heisenberg–Virasoro algebra $\bar {\mathfrak {D}}$ with non-zero level. To this end we generalize Sugawara operators to smooth modules over the Heisenberg algebra, and develop new techniques. As applications, we characterize simple Whittaker modules and simple highest weight modules over ${\mathfrak {D}}$. A vertex-algebraic interpretation of our result is the classification of simple weak twisted and untwisted modules over the Heisenberg–Virasoro vertex algebras. We also present a few examples of simple smooth ${\mathfrak {D}}$-modules and $\bar {\mathfrak {D}}$-modules induced from simple modules over finite dimensional solvable Lie algebras, that are not tensor product modules of Virasoro modules and Heisenberg modules. This is very different from the case of simple highest weight modules over $\mathfrak {D}$ and $\bar {\mathfrak {D}}$ which are always tensor products of simple Virasoro modules and simple Heisenberg modules.

This paper introduces type P web supercategories. They are defined as diagrammatic monoidal ${\mathbb {k}}$-linear supercategories via generators and relations. We study the structure of these categories and provide diagrammatic bases for their morphism spaces. We also prove these supercategories provide combinatorial models for the monoidal supercategory generated by the symmetric powers of the natural module and their duals for the Lie superalgebra of type P.

We use the dual functional realization of loop algebras to study the prime irreducible objects in the Hernandez–Leclerc (HL) category for the quantum affine algebra associated with $\mathfrak {sl}_{n+1}$. When the HL category is realized as a monoidal categorification of a cluster algebra (Hernandez and Leclerc (2010, Duke Mathematical Journal 154, 265–341); Hernandez and Leclerc (2013, Symmetries, integrable systems and representations, 175–193)), these representations correspond precisely to the cluster variables and the frozen variables are minimal affinizations. For any height function, we determine the classical decomposition of these representations with respect to the Hopf subalgebra $\mathbf {U}_q(\mathfrak {sl}_{n+1})$ and describe the graded multiplicities of their graded limits in terms of lattice points of convex polytopes. Combined with Brito, Chari, and Moura (2018, Journal of the Institute of Mathematics of Jussieu 17, 75–105), we obtain the graded decomposition of stable prime Demazure modules in level two integrable highest weight representations of the corresponding affine Lie algebra.

In this paper, we study an analogue of the Bernstein–Gelfand–Gelfand category ${\mathcal {O}}$ for truncated current Lie algebras $\mathfrak {g}_n$ attached to a complex semisimple Lie algebra. This category admits Verma modules and simple modules, each parametrized by the dual space of the truncated currents on a choice of Cartan subalgebra in $\mathfrak {g}$. Our main result describes an inductive procedure for computing composition multiplicities of simples inside Vermas for $\mathfrak {g}_n$, in terms of similar composition multiplicities for ${\mathfrak {l}}_{n-1}$ where ${\mathfrak {l}}$ is a Levi subalgebra. As a consequence, these numbers are expressed as integral linear combinations of Kazhdan–Lusztig polynomials evaluated at 1. This generalizes recent work of the first author, where the case $n=1$ was treated.

We determine the dimensions of $\textrm{Ext}$-groups between simple modules and dual generalized Verma modules in singular blocks of parabolic versions of category $\mathcal{O}$ for complex semisimple Lie algebras and affine Kac-Moody algebras.
