Research aims to understand how psychological mechanisms influence mental health. Accordingly, much of the studies in this field has been dedicated to clarifying how emotion regulatory strategies may be associated with increased psychopathology (Gross & John, 2003). Individuals regulate their emotions in a wide variety of ways.

We focus on two commonly used emotion regulation strategies: reappraisal (changing the way one thinks about a potentially emotion-eliciting event) and suppression (changing the way one responds behaviorally to an emotion-eliciting event).

We analyze emotion regulation strategies (Gross & John, 2003) in order to examine their relation with a broad range of psychological problems and symptoms of psychopathology.

Emotion regulation was assessed by means of the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ, Gross & John, 2003), which taps two regulatory strategies, suppression and reappraisal. The psychopathological distress was assessed by the 90- item Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R; Derogatis, 1994) by indicating the degree of distress on a scale of 0 (not at all) to 4 (extremely) caused by a list of problems during the past 7 days. The sample consisted of 548 individuals (age: M=32.97; DS=3.55 for male; M=31.29; DS=3.64 for female).

Individuals who reported low levels of suppression reported the lowest levels of psychopathological symptoms.

Our findings highlight that the capacity to regulate emotions may be associated with reduced psychopathology and more adaptive functioning

Forensic Psychiatry and Mental Health Service as new field in our country needs strategies for management and rehabilitation programs.

To evaluate socio-demographic characteristics and prevalence of psychiatric diagnosis of inpatients hospitalized in last three year period time from January 2009 up to December 2011. Specific objectives of this study were to identify the rehabilitation programs of treatment and specific training needs of mental health professionals according to our results findings.

This retrospective study used the method of socio-demographic data collection, review and study of documented diagnosis based on ICD-10 criteria for mental disorders and Structured Clinical Interview (SCID), data records by court and other hetero-anamnesis data of all forensic inpatients who underwent psychiatric forensic evaluation and assessment according to court request. Descriptive approach for analyses was used.

Subjects were referred either directly from prison (23,2%) or from court (76,8%) for forensic psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. The majority of offenders (85,7%) were under trial, and physical threatening being the most common charge than domestic violence and murder. Prevalence of psychiatric diagnosis was 94,6%, the most common being psychosis 69,1%. Drug abuse and personality disorders including high-risk behaviors were also common.

Rehabilitation programs of treatment and management with specific focus on psychotic disorders, sever personality disorder and drug abuse are needed. Establishment of Forensic Mental Health System in Kosovo will fulfill the implementation of legal framework including the rights and human treatment of all mentally ill offenders.

Forensic psychiatry is a branch of psychiatry which emphases on the interface between law and psychiatry. It may include psychiatric consultation in a wide variety of legal matters, as well as clinical work with perpetrators and victims.The objective of current study is to visualize the scientific activities in the field of Forensic psychiatry through 2006–2012.

The Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) and Social Science Citation Index from the database of Web of Science were used to obtain all publication entitled as“Forensic psychiatry” through 2006–2012. Restriction of publication entitled into Forensic psychiatry cause to obtain the most relevant papers in the field of Forensic psychiatry.

Analysis of data showed that a total number of 248 papers entitled as Forensic Psychiatry were published in the journals which indexed in Web of Science during the period of study. The most majority of publication came from North America and west Europe. USA sharing 23% of global publication in the field is the most productive country followed by Germany (19%), England (14%), and Canada (7%). More than 63% of global publication came from these four prolific countries. A total number of 271 organization have contributed their works in the field of Forensic Psychiatry, the American private University of Yale was the most productive among them.

National and International telepsychiatry service was established between Denmark and Sweden in order to increase access to cross-cultural expertise. Patient acceptability study was conducted to assess the patients’ attitudes toward the quality, advantages and disadvantages of telepsychiatry service.

Over a period January 2005-December 2007, 61 patients were treated via telepsychiatry by clinicians that speak patientsrespective mother tongues. Video-conferencing equipment connected the Little Prince Psychiatric Centre in Copenhagen with two hospitals, one asylum seekers’ centre and one social institution in Denmark. These stations were also connected to the Swedish department of the Centre. Number of languages spoken was 9 while the number of nationalities treated was 11. No interpreter assistance has been used.

After the end of the telepsychiatry contact all patients were asked to complete a satisfaction questionnaire.

Patients reported a high level of acceptance and satisfaction with telepsychiatry. They expressed a wish to use telepsychiatry via their mother tongue, rather than interpreter-assisted mental health care in the future.

The restricted physical contact and non-verbal communication of telepsychiatry was compensated by the fact that the doctor and patient spoke the same language and had similar cultural and/or national references. The results of the survey may contribute to further development of, primarily, European Telepsychiatry Network. However, this model may be used for conducting of larger international telepsychiatry service capable to provide mental health care toward diversity of patient populations underserved on their mother tongue worldwide.

Due to our fear of extinction or annihilation, there is a great deal of preoccupation with the subject of death, through which we attempt to learn to feel more at ease with the concept, and allowing us to cope with our fear of death.

The study assumptions seek to emphasize the correlations between:

1. A. Demographic characteristics and anxiety of death and dying;

2. B. Inner - personality characteristics and death and dying anxiety variable; and

3. C. Intrapersonal characteristics and death and dying anxiety.

Findings indicate that the war increased the death and dying anxieties especially among those elderly women and those who live within nursing homes. In general elderly people with a high level of self-evaluation and sense of mastery will experience lower levels of death and dying anxieties.

In spite of age, experience and knowledge, war has a powerful influence on elderly people. The phenomena in which innocent citizens became more and more involved in politics violence must be in front of policy makers.

High work demands (i.e. a heavy workload, tight time pressures, conflicting work tasks) put individuals at high risk of depression. Our aim was to test whether the relationship between high work demands and depression is moderated by genetic vulnerability to depression and by work control.

Participants are members of the Dunedin Study, a 1972-73 longitudinal birth cohort assessed most recently in 2004-2005, at age 32 (96% response rate). This analysis included all participants who were employed at age 32. Depression was measured using the Diagnostic Interview Schedule. Work demands and work control were assessed in an interview. Genetic vulnerability to stress was ascertained by the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTT).

Among individuals exposed to high work demands, symptoms of depression were significantly higher among those who carried two short alleles of the 5-HTT gene (‘s/s’ group) than among ‘l’ carriers (interaction between 5-HTT gene and work demands: β=4.22, se=1.86, p=0.02). However, this gene-environment interaction was only present among those individuals who had low control over their work (interaction between 5-HTT gene and high work demands: β: 7.21, se: 2.73, p=0.009), not among those who had high work control (interaction between 5-HTT gene and high work demands: β: 1.32, se: 2.53, p=0.60).

Pending replication, the serotonin transporter gene appears to moderate the effects of high work demands on symptoms of depression. This gene-environment interaction is attenuated by high work control.

Non-suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) refers to causing damage on body tissue without attending to death. It is mostly presented among the youths and not approved by the society. Studies nowadays have explored the perspectives, feelings or experience of the youths or healthcare professionals. However, negative feelings and misunderstandings toward each other remain from both sides.

The aim was to explore the encountering experience of the youths with NSSI and the healthcare professionals during the same hospitalization in a psychiatric acute ward.

Qualitative study was employed by using narrative approach. In-depth interview was conducted for the youths with NSSI and their primary nurse and resident from a medical center in southern Taiwan.

Narratives from the patients and healthcare professionals showed that the youths seemed to be comfortable as encountering with the healthcare professionals’ caring. In contrast, the healthcare professionals’ struggles had been hidden inside and remained uneasy and unsolved. Two extreme experiences have been reported by the youths with NSSI: felt satisfied and understood about being cared vs. felt numbness and not been understood. Four kinds of experience were identified as: struggling on caring them, feeling confused and helpless, keeping a safe distance, and having contradicted values.

This study found that the healthcare professionals suffer from varied aspects when encountering the youths with NSSI, which they often hid inside without expressing. Future improvement such as care guideline or staff’s support system should be built to decrease the negative effects inside the healthcare professionals’ mind.

The aim of this study was to compare testosterone level with clinical features of problem behavior in children with ASD.

The study sample consisted of 35 pre-pubertal boys with clinical diagnosis of ASD. In all children (ages 3-10) diagnosed as ASD, parents completed Nisonger Child Behavior Rating Form (NCBRF) (version for intellectual disabilities)-parent version. Rating scale assessed child´s behavior as observed in previous 1-2 months. Specific problem behavior was rated on subscales for conduct problems, anxiety, hyperactivity, self-injury/stereotypic behavior, self-isolated/ritualistic and overly sensitive. On this rating form parents also assessed social behavior: compliant behavior and adaptive social behavior. Total serum testosterone levels were determined after the parents completed rating forms, according to standardized procedure.

It was found positive correlation between total serum testosterone levels and conduct problem subscale (p=0.007, r=0.445) and as well as total serum testosterone levels and overly sensitive subscale (p=0.03, r=0.348) of NCBRF. In other subscalesof NCBRF(problem behavior or social behavior) were no significant correlations.

The results suggest that there might be some relationship between problem behavior (specifically conduct problems and overal sensitivity) and testosterone levels in boys with ASD. Testosterone levels had no significant correlation with other subscales of NCBRF. However further research is needed for investigation of complex androgen activity (free TST levels, SHBD levels) and potential roles of other hormones in complex etiology of conduct problems and overall sensitivity in children with ASD. This findings rise interest in further investigation of relationship between testosterone and conduct problems and overall sensitivity in children with ASD and indicate that therapeutic strategies targeting testosteronecould be useful in the treatment of problem behaviors in children with ASD.

Researchers have assumed that self-esteem operate only in a conscious mode. In the last years, researchers showed that self-esteem is determined by both explicit and implicit process and new instruments, like Implicit Association Test (IAT), has been designed to measure implicit self-esteem. IAT measures the relative strength of association between pairs of concepts. This study investigated the correlations between implicit and explicit measures of self-esteem. We also investigate which type of the implicit instrument is preferable for an application to patients with a diagnosis of Social Phobia.

A traditional IAT (IAT-A) and a single-category IAT (SC-A) measuring implicit self-esteem were structured. IAT instruments and a traditional self-reports that assessed self-esteem were administered to 25 healthy subjects. BIDR, a self-report that assess the socially desirable responding bias, was also administered.

No correlation between IAT-A and SC-A was found. IAT-A and SC-A did not show correlations with explicit self-esteem measures. Moreover, IAT-A showed a significant correlation with BIDR. At last, a significant correlations between explicit self-esteem measures was found.

Results suggested a distinction between implicit and explicit self-esteem construct. This distinction has important clinical implication. Because off IAT-A is more complex and needs more cognitive resources it could be suppose that this test leaves space to deliberative processes, so automaticity in responding could be reduced. In conclusion, above the theoretical basis of the original model, SC-A results preferable to apply in a clinical sample, for its simplicity and its low correlation with the BIDR.
