After Russia decided to start COVID-19 vaccination of international students who are getting their education on its territory, they received an opportunity to get a single dose of COVID-19 Sputnik Light vaccine. What motives can such international students have for being vaccinated in the situation of uncertainty?

Our goal is to define the structure of motivation for COVID-19 vaccination among international students who are getting education at different departments of the university.

In October 2021, we surveyed 409 international students getting education at Ulianov Chuvash State University in Cheboksary, who agreed to COVID-19 vaccination.

Those who applied for vaccination were mostly 3rd year students (32.03%) and 4th year ones (21.52%). 8 students out of the surveyed (1.96%) had been vaccinated outside Russia, 4 – in Russia (0.98%). 8.56% of the pool had had COVID-19, 57.7% had not, 33.74% could not give a certain answer. Main motives for COVID-19 vaccination were: unwillingness to be ill (57.21%), unwillingness to have any limitations imposed (22.98%), unwillingness, especially of medical students, to have problems in their studies (12.22%), inclination towards following their relatives’ advice (5.13%), desire to follow the surrounding people’s example (1.98%). In personal conversations, the students often expressed their wish for being vaccinated with a 2-component Sputnik V vaccine for a better protection from illness.

The survey of the international students’ motives showed that most of them have positive attitude to COVID-19 vaccination and feel inclined to be vaccinated with a Russian vaccine in order to reduce the risk of getting ill.

The H2020/PERISCOPE project, including 32 partners from European universities & agencies, began 1st November 2020 and will last 36 months. The overarching objectives of PERISCOPE are to map and analyse the unintended impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak; develop solutions and guidance for policymakers and health authorities on how to mitigate the impact of the outbreak; enhance Europe’s preparedness for future similar events; and reflect on the future multi-level governance in the health as well as other domains affected by the outbreak. During this session we will report about early lessons learnt from the mapping and assessments of the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak on mental health at national and subnational level in the EU with respect to individuals, communities and societies. Further, we will comment on their comparability. The aim is to explore differences between countries regarding the occurrence of mental ill health, and especially the impact on vulnerable groups, and how this is related to exposure to SARS-CoV-2, differences in policies over time, and effects on the economy. We will reflect on the short- and long-term consequences on mental health and health inequalities, report on the ongoing development of holistic policy guidelines for health authorities & other authorities, and from the analysis of multilevel governance, at local, regional and national level, memberstate – EU-level, and EU - global governance level. PERISCOPE will continue collecting data and updating a common data ”Atlas”, which would lead the consortium to engage in modelling and experiments to provide “continuous nowcasting” of the outbreak.

Several studies have independently suggested that schizophrenia patients are more likely to have an enlarged cavum septum pellucidum (CSP). However, neither finding has been consistently replicated.

We recruited the relatively homogeneity population: treatment resistant schizophrenia (TRS) and treatment resistant depression (TRD).To investigate whether CSP was present more frequently in TRS or TRD patients than controls and the difference of CSP morphological characteristic between groups.

1.5-Tesla MRI was used to evaluate the prevalence of CSP and morphology changes in 42 TRS, 45 TRD patients and 30 healthy controls. The CSP length, width and volume were measured using MRIcro and Analyze™ 8.1 software. A CSP equal to or greater than 6 mm in length was defined as big CSP.

TRS Patients had a significantly higher prevalence (6%) of the big CSP than TRD patients (0%) or controls (3.3%) while no significant difference on the prevalence of all CSP (TRS: 64.3%, TRD: 48.9%, controls: 50.0%) or small CSP between groups. Compared with controls or TRD patients, the values of CSP maximum width in patients with TRS were significant lower and CSP length were higher. There was no significant difference in the CSP volume between groups.

The incidence in Big CSP in TRS patients was higher than that of TRS patients or controls. The small CSP may be a kind of normal variant. There were different CSP developmental characteristics between TRS and TRD patients based on the MRI study.

There is a significant prevalence of morbid obesity among the population in the United Arab Emirates (BMI>40kg/m2). This has been accompanied by a growth in bariatric surgery.

To study psychiatric co-morbidity in obese patients seeking Bariatric Surgery.

To identify baseline psychological characteristics such as symptoms of anxiety and depression that may potentially interfere or complicate the surgical procedure.

Eighty eight consecutive obese patients (F=69, M=19) seeking bariatric surgery were recruited at Tawam Hospital in Al Ain. Behavioral/psychosocial evaluations were conducted to screen for symptoms of anxiety and depression using Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD). The impact on the degree of perceived disability was assessed on the four functional dimensions of the Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS). Statistical methods used Pearson Correlation to study correlation between scales and quantitative variables, while frequencies were determined for categorical variables.

The reported frequency of significant symptoms on the HAD were 26.7% for anxiety and 14.7% for depression. The average mean disability scores on the SDS were 21.3%. The relative frequency of disabilities on each of the 4 dimensions of functioning were 28.7%, 35.0%, 36.3%, 36.3% consecutively. Higher Depression scores were associated with marked disability on the dimensions of Social life, Family/home responsibilities and Religious duties (0.61, 0.38, 0.29 consecutively). Meantime, anxiety scores were associated with higher disability on social life, family/home responsibilities (0.39 and 0.3) but not on work/school or religious duties.

Anxiety and depressive symptoms are common among bariatric patients with morbid obesity in the UAE.

Antipsychotics are psyschotropic medications that are indicated for the treatment of physchosis and mood disorders. Due to minimal side effects and their efficacy (affecting many receptors) compared to standard antipsychotics, today atypical antipsychotics are being used more and more as first-line treatment.

The aim of this study is to show the efficacy of asenapine and its tolerability as opposed to other atypical antipsychotics.

It is a comparative, regular, clinical study, an examination case of a 53-year old female diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder 27 years ago and treated outside of hospital with atypical antipsychotics, such as: risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine, aripiprazole, amisulpride. The study covers the timespan of 2010-2022.

The results showed that asenapine sublingual 15 mg had fewer side effects than other atypical antipsychotics. They were mouth dryness, headache, fatigue.

The other atypical antipsychotics caused: metabolic disorders, like considerable weight gain, cholesterol and glycaemia increase, extrapyramidal side effects, hyperprolactinemia.

Asenapine sublingual 15 mg was not as effective in treating Schyzoaffective Disorder as risperdal 5mg, olanzapine 15 mg, aripiprazole 20 mg, amisulpride 600 mg.

The efficacy of asenapine sublingual 15mg was the same as quetiapine 400 mg.

This study showed that asenapine has minimal side effects but its efficacy in treating Schyzoaffective Disorder as monotherapy is lower than other atypical antipsychotics.

To explore the relationship between resilience and social support, coping style of children in two middle schools for providing an evidence for improving childrens’resilience.

Six hundred childrens were surveyed with the Connor-Davidson resilience questionnaire(CD-RISC), perceived social support scale(PSSS)and coping style questionnaire (CSQ).

Resilience had significant difference between male and female children.

The resilience was positively correlated with social support and two factors of coping style: seeking help and solving problem, but negatively correlated with the other factors in coping style questionnaire.

Children with high score in Connor-Davidson resilience questionnaire are more tend to the positive coping style.

Social support is an important factor of resilience in children.

In Portugal there are no national epidemiologic registers on the prevalence/incidence of suicidal ideation and attempts. Although there is no evidence that suicide is higher in University students than in other people of the same age, it is a cause of premature death.

To analyze the prevalence and characteristics of suicidality in university students

549 University students (80.1% females) filled in a booklet of questionnaires that included the Suicidal Behaviour Section of the Diagnostic Interview of Genetic Studies (Azevedo et al, 1993; Nurnberger et al., 1994), which was slight modified.

0.4% reported lifetime poor psychological health and 1.3% reported lifetime hospitalizations due to emotional/behavioural problems. Lifetime thoughts of death, lifetime active suicidal ideation, and lifetime suicidal attempts were described by 20.4%, 11.9% and by 2.3% of the students, respectively. Regarding the more severe lifetime suicide attempt (N=15) the method used was predominantly self-poisoning (medication) (9/13), 40% (6/15) were hospitalized after this attempt, 53.3% (8/15) reported death wishes when the act was performed, and 60% (9/15) considered that death could be the consequence of the act. During last month suicidal ideation occurred in 1.9% of the students. During the last two weeks suicidal ideation without planning was found in 2.2% and 0.2% refereed they are going to attempt suicide if they will have an opportunity.

In university students recent, frequent and severe suicide ideation might occur. Results highlighted the need for suicidality prevention/early intervention and that Health University Care Services should screen systematically suicidal ideation.

PPA is characterized by progressive language dissolution, with remarkable spare of other cognitive domains for at least two years, and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of dementia.

A 56-year-old previously healthy man was seen for speech difficulties. He studied Portuguese for 4 years, and then went to live in France, where he learned French for 3 years. He returned definitely to Portugal when he was 42. Since early adolescence he was fluent on speaking, reading and writing in both languages. In the last 12 years he spoke French mainly when visiting his family. Three years ago he started showing disintegration of his second language preceding that of his native one. Upon examination he had laborious, effortful, nonfluent and agrammatic speech, with severe anomia and some repetition and complex-command comprehension difficulties. He could not name, understand or write any French word. The remaining neurological examination was near-normal to age and education level (MMSE - 25/30). Brain MRI showed left-side predominant frontotemporal cortical atrophy. PET scan revealed hypometabolism in the same area and the temporal lobe, anterior cynguli and dorsolateral frontal cortex.

Our patient has nonfluent variant of PPA. Cases like this can give further insight into the neural network subserving language acquisition and dissolution. In proficient bilinguals, the main point on language dissolution in PPA seems to be the recency of use. The best way to confirm this would be to systematically characterize PPA patients on secondary language usage, attained proficiency and disintegration sequence.

E-cigarette use has increased over the last years. Many studies have examined teenagers’ attitudes towards smoking, but did not examine adolescents’ attitudes towards e-cigarettes.

The aim of this study was to examine high school students’ attitudes regarding e-cigarette safety, addictive properties and social norms and to compare e-cigarettes perceptions among e-cigarette users and non-users in Tunisia.

A survey was conducted with a sample of 234 students in Mohamed Ali high school in Sfax, a town in South of Tunisia, in February 2020. Socio-demographic data and questions about vaping and attitudes towards e-cigarettes were used to evaluate students’ perceptions towards e-cigarettes.

Among high school students aged 15 to 20, 58,8% have ever used e-cigarette, 38,3% had done so within the previous 30 days and 20,5 % were regular users of vapes. 53.8% of students believed that e-cigarettes are harmful. 78.4% of them thought they were less harmful than regular cigarettes and 50.5% thought they could be addictive, 45.4% of students believed e-cigarette smoking decreased anxiety and a third thought it made them sociable (33.3%) and confident (30.6%).Adolescents who used e-cigarettes had significantly more favorable e-cigarette attitudes than non-users: they believed they were less harmful than tobacco (p=0,019), they were not addictive (p=0,005), they decreased anxiety (p=0,001) and they made the user sociable (p<0,001) and confident (p=0,01).

Our results suggest the need to provide teenagers with the correct information about e-cigarettes risks, and the balance risk-benefit of their use.

To evaluate and compare clinical characteristics of men and women who were admitted to psychiatric hospital after parasuicide.

Clinical examination, The Pierce Suicide Intent Scale, Beck Suicide Ideation Scale, Beck Hopelessness Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, The Symptom Checklist 90 Revised, Global Quality of Life Self - Rating Scale, The Barratt Impulsiveness Scale, The Toronto Alexithymia Scale.

Suicide attempters over 15 years admitted to the psychiatric hospital within one month after parasuicide (N=264; 114 – men and 149 – women).

Level of depression according to the Beck Depression inventory was higher in women (M=19,1; SD=13,1) than in men (M=12,9; SD=9) with ρ<0,001. The scores of general psychopathological state were higher in women (M=87,7; SD=68,1) than in men (M=69,1; SD=49,7), ρ<0,04. There were no statistical differences in the level of hopelessness according to Beck Hopelessness Scale, impulsivity according to The Barratt Impulsiveness Scale, alexithymia according to The Toronto Alexithymia Scale and perception of quality of life according to the Quality of Life Self- Rating Scale. There was no difference in the level of suicide ideation according to the Beck Suicide Ideation Scale and suicide intention according to The Pierce Suicide Intent Scale.

There weren’t considerable difference of parasuicide risk factors between men and women hospitalized because of mental disorders. At the same time women more often percept their psychological state as more severe.

Besides many, suicidal behaviour has socio-cultural and historical determinants. The purpose of this study was to determinate whether differences in suicide rates and attitude towards self-harm among different nations are reflecting in the lyrics of the national anthems.

Word use and content analysis were used to compare anthems of 6 different countries with different suicide rates. The analyses were conducted by the members of the study group according to an assessment tool, developed for this study based on Weintraub's method. After careful analysis, results were compared with national suicide rates.

The English and the Canadian anthem contain the most positive contents (like positive labelings, wishes or emotions), 17.24% and 10.90%, respectively, without any negative or aggressive hints. Glory was characteristic to most anthems (mainly to the German: 16.66%), but in the US anthem it was related with aggression (3.61%). Compared to these, the Polish, but mainly the Hungarian anthem contains more negative labelings (4.71%) and emotions (1.88%) while mentioning minimal glorious contents (1.80%).

The assessment of word use and content analysis of the anthems of different countries revealed specific differences between national attitudes. Furthermore, anthems of countries with lower suicide rates tend to contain more positive contents, while with higher suicide rates, especially the Hungarian showed more ambivalence, denial, loss, or even aggressive hints. Our study is limited by the low number of anthems included in the analysis. In the future, more complete analyses of different anthems are planned to strengthen our preliminary data.

Assessing mentalizing abilities is a complex issue. Only recently an instrument assessing mentalizing capacity as a whole, the Reflective Functioning Questionnaire (RFQ), has been developed.

To reach the purpose of our study, we investigated the psychometric proprieties of the Italian version of the RFQ.

The study was conducted on a sample including a group of violent offenders and a group of community participants. All subjects fulfilled the RFQ, the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) and the Aggression Questionnaire (AQ).

The theoretical model was defined and analysed by using Partial Least Squares–Path Modelling with high-order construct definition. Data showed good psychometric proprieties of the Italian version of the RFQ. Also, specific patterns of correlations were identified between the RFQ subscales and both PID-5 and AQ scores. Offenders significantly differed from controls only in relation to one subscale of the RFQ.

Data supported the factorial structure of the RFQ found in the original validation study. Results also support the existence of a second-order variable, mentalizing, resulting from the convergence of hypomentalizing and hypermentalizing.

Self-harming behavior is a frequent problem seen at patients admitted to closed wards in psychiatric hospitals. People who self-harm have al higher risk of other forms of aggressive behavior as well. Little is known about prevalence and characteristics of this behavior, the preceding triggering factors and the relation with other aggressive behaviors.

To gain insights in the self-harming behavior of patients admitted to a closed ward in a psychiatric hospital.

From September 2019 till January 2021 information on self-harming incidents and aggressive behavior towards others or objects, of 27 patients admitted to the closed department of the Centre Intensive Treatment (Centrum Intensieve Behandeling), has been gathered. The Self-Harm Scale and Social Dysfunction and Agression Scale were used to gather the data.

Twenty of 27 patients examined (74%) showed self-harming behavior. Head banging (41,9%) and self-harming using straps/ropes (30%) occurred most. Tension/stress as triggering factor was mentioned most (19,1%), followed by reliving (13,5%) and team interaction (11,8%). Self-harming behavior occurred more in evenings then during the rest of the day. No significant difference was found in the degree of aggressive behavior towards others or objects between the group of patients harming themselves and the group that didn’t.

This study delivers insights in self-harming behavior of patients admitted to closed psychiatric departments that can be used for prevention and treatment.

Mood stabilizers can cause many side effects. Although many of these are well known, like thyroid and renal failure after taking lithium, sexual dysfunction side effects remains unclear.

We made a systematic computerized literature search of clinical studies using MEDLINE, The Cochrane Library and Trip for clinical studies of sexual dysfunction published up to December 2015.

Only eight relevant papers were identified. All of them studied lithium sexual dysfunction in bipolar disorder patients. Valproic acid, carbamazepine and lamotrigine were not studied in patients with bipolar disorder. Nevertheless, the three were studied in epilepsy. Clinical reports usually used Arizona Sexual Experience Scale or Psychotropic Related Sexual Dysfunction Questionnaire to measure sexual dysfunction and Brief Adherence Rating Scale to measure medication adherence. They suggest lithium could decrease desire and sexual thoughts, worse arousal and cause orgasm dysfunction. In overall, those patients with sexual dysfunction had lower level of functioning and poor compliance. Taking benzodiazepines during lithium treatment may increase the risk of sexual dysfunction even more.

There are few studies that focus on mood stabilizers sexual dysfunction. This inevitably entails a number of limitations. First, the small sample size and, in some studies, the relative short period of follow-up may underestimate the results. Besides, practical management was not treated in any study. Actually, handling this side effect have not been well established.

To conclude, this revision suggest that approximately 30% patients receiving lithium experience this side effect, and it is associated with poor medication adherence.

The identification of potential biomarkers is crucial to improve the management and treatment of mood disorders. Glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK-3) is a multifunctional enzyme with an important role in the etiology of mood disorders. Recent findings suggested GSK-3 as a putative biomarker in mood disorders.

The aims of the study are: - to evaluate GSK3 as potential biomarker for differential diagnosis (MDD and BD); - to analyze the regulation of GSK3 by psychopharmacological treatments.

Patients included fulfill the following criteria: (a) principal diagnosis of MDD or BD (DSM-5); (b) age ≥ 18 years; (c) drug-free for at least 4 weeks before the inclusion. For each patient included a healthy control is enrolled, matched by gender and age. All included subjects at the study entry point (t0) are assessed through: - semistructured clinical interview and clinical rating scales (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale; Young Mania Rating Scale, Clinical Global Impression) - blood draw, to measure GSK-3 levels Patients with MDD or BD are assessed again after 1 week (T1) and after 2 month (T2) of specific pharmacological treatment.

So far, we enrolled 16 patients and 16 healthy controls. The enrollment is still ongoing.

We expect to find GSK-3 levels differently expressed between healthy controls, patients with DDM and patients with BD. This finding would be crucial as it could contribute to the improvement of differential diagnosis. Moreover, we expect to observe a change in GSK-3 levels after psychopharmacological treatments.

The association between lithium and thyroid dysfunction has long been known. Yet it is not known whether lithium-associated hypothyroidism is reversible, once lithium treatment has been stopped.

To determine whether lithium-associated hypothyroidism was reversible in patients who subsequently discontinued lithium.

Retrospective cohort study in the Swedish region of Norrbotten into the effects and side- effects of lithium treatment and other drugs for relapse prevention (LiSIE). For this particular study, we reviewed medical records between 1997 and 2015 of patients treated with lithium.

Of 1340 patients screened, we identified 90 patients with lithium-associated hypothyroidism who subsequently discontinued lithium. Of these, 27% had overt hypothyroidism at the time when thyroid replacement therapy was initiated. The mean delay from lithium start to thyroid replacement therapy start was 2.3 (SD 4.7) years. Fifty percent received thyroid replacement therapy within 10 months of starting lithium. Of 85 patients available for follow up, 35 (41%) stopped thyroid replacement therapy after lithium discontinuation. Six patients reinstated thyroid replacement therapy subsequently. Only one of these had overt hypothyroidism, occurring 13 days after stopping lithium and 11 days after stopping thyroid replacement therapy.

Lithium-associated hypothyroidism seems reversible in most patients, once lithium has been discontinued. In such cases, thyroid replacement therapy discontinuation could be attempted much more often than currently done. Based on the limited evidence of our study, we can expect hypothyroidism to recur early after discontinuation of thyroid replacement therapy if at all.

Haloperidol is a high-potency first generation antipsychotic and one of the most frequently used antipsychotic medications. It is a potent central antagonist of type 2 dopamine receptors, with low alpha 1 adrenergic activity and has no antihistamine or anti-cholinergic activity. It is a widely used drug with proven efficacy. Angioedema is a very rare side effect, occurring in <1% of cases.

Case report and reflection on its etiology

A Pubmed search was performed with the MeSH terms “haloperidol” and “Anaphylactic reactions”. Relevant articles obtained from the respective bibliographic references were also consulted.

The following case describes the development of angioedema in a patient with an acute confusional syndrome on the second haloperidol IM administration for symptomatic control of agitation. Angioedema has been reported as an adverse effect of various antipsychotics such as clozapine, risperidone, ziprazidone and chlorpromazine, however, resulting from haloperidol administration is rare.

In long-term formulations sensitization testing is especially important but a single prior administration is not sufficient, a second controlled administration is essential to avoid this kind of fatal reactions.

Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) has a multifactorial aetiology, and wide-ranging potential health complications, including brain health associations.

A number of diabetes risk factors and complications have a strong evidence base. This study will address ambiguity in the literature regarding others.

Results will inform development of a questionnaire for use among the public and individuals with diabetes, assessing knowledge of diabetes and brain health associations and the role of modifiable risk factors. Aiming to ultimately inform effective preventative strategies for both dementia and depression.

A systematic literature review preceded this two-round modified Delphi study. Respondents rated their agreement with risk factors for T2DM, and potential complications of diabetes on an e-questionnaire.

Of 46 international experts invited to participate in round-one; 14 responded (30.4%). Thirteen respondents (92.9%) completed round-two questionnaire. Consensus was pre-defined as 70% or more agreement between respondents on questionnaire items. On completion, 11/18 risk factor items for T2DM met consensus criteria however ‘depression’ did not. Of diabetes complication items, 13/16 met consensus criteria (see Table 1).

Study results indicate that international experts consider a number of brain health complications to be associated with diabetes. Results will be incorporated in a diabetes and brain health knowledge questionnaire for use among vulnerable populations.

Violence among the mentally ill population has long been a subject of stigma, and controversy. Clinicians’ ability to assess the violent potential is still limited.

The objective of this work is to identify the positively correlated indicators of aggressive behavior in patients admitted to hospital emergency departments.

It is a retrospective and descriptive paper based on the records of patients admitted to the emergency department of Arrazi University Psychiatric Hospital in Salé during a one-month period.

The psychiatric diagnosis was formulated using the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and Violent behavior was assessed using the Modified Overt Aggression Scale (MOAS). The existence of aggressive behavior was defined by a MOAS score ≥3.

We used SPSS 15 to analyse results

Sixty-five case files were selected during the study month. The average age was 35.3 (19;64).

The mean of our sample MOAS aggression scale score was 31.5 [0; 79] and 90% of patients had a score ≥ 3 (image 1)

Among the 65 admissions, heteroaggressive risk was the most frequent reason for hospitalization (N=53), followed by psychomotor excitement. IMAGE 2

Statistical analysis revealed a significant association between high MOAS scores and substance use, history of suicide attempt, educational level and socioeconomic level

In the current research, the prevalence of aggressive behavior was high among these patients, which may be due to the conditions of psychiatric hospitalization in our region, which is often reserved for the most serious and dangerous patients.
