The present work is devoted to the study of motivic integration on quotient singularities. We give a new proof of a form of the McKay correspondence previously proved by Batyrev. The paper contains also some general results on motivic integration on arbitrary singular spaces.

The Chern–Ricci flow is an evolution equation of Hermitian metrics by their Chern–Ricci form, first introduced by Gill. Building on our previous work, we investigate this flow on complex surfaces. We establish new estimates in the case of finite time non-collapsing, analogous to some known results for the Kähler–Ricci flow. This provides evidence that the Chern–Ricci flow carries out blow-downs of exceptional curves on non-minimal surfaces. We also describe explicit solutions to the Chern–Ricci flow for various non-Kähler surfaces. On Hopf surfaces and Inoue surfaces these solutions, appropriately normalized, collapse to a circle in the sense of Gromov–Hausdorff. For non-Kähler properly elliptic surfaces, our explicit solutions collapse to a Riemann surface. Finally, we define a Mabuchi energy functional for complex surfaces with vanishing first Bott–Chern class and show that it decreases along the Chern–Ricci flow.

We describe birational models and decide the rationality/unirationality of moduli spaces $\cal A$d (and $\cal A$levd) of (1, d)-polarized Abelian surfaces (with canonical level structure, respectively) for small values of d. The projective lines identified in the rational/unirational moduli spaces correspond to pencils of Abelian surfaces traced on nodal threefolds living naturally in the corresponding ambient projective spaces, and whose small resolutions are new Calabi–Yau threefolds with Euler characteristic zero.

The representation theory of polynomial growth strongly simply connected finite dimensional algebras over an algebraically closed field is established.

This paper studies affine Deligne–Lusztig varieties in the affine flag manifold of a split group. Among other things, it proves emptiness for certain of these varieties, relates some of them to those for Levi subgroups, and extends previous conjectures concerning their dimensions. We generalize the superset method, an algorithmic approach to the questions of non-emptiness and dimension. Our non-emptiness results apply equally well to the p-adic context and therefore relate to moduli of p-divisible groups and Shimura varieties with Iwahori level structure.

We introduce the notion of twisted jets. For a Deligne–Mumford stack $\mathscr{X}$ of finite type over $\mathbb{C}$, a twisted $\infty$-jet on $\mathscr{X}$ is a representable morphism $\mathscr{D} \to \mathscr{X}$ such that $\mathscr{D}$ is a smooth Deligne–Mumford stack with the coarse moduli space Spec$\mathbb{C}[[t]]$. We study a motivic measure on the space of the twisted $\infty$-jets on a smooth Deligne–Mumford stack. As an application, we prove that two birational minimal models with Gorenstein quotient singularities have the same orbifold cohomology as a Hodge structure.

Let $X$ be a smooth variety over a field $k$ of characteristic $p>0$, and let $\mathcal{E}$ be an overconvergent isocrystal on $X$. We establish a criterion for the existence of a ‘canonical logarithmic extension’ of $\mathcal{E}$ to a smooth compactification $\overline{X}$ of $X$ whose complement is a strict normal crossings divisor. We also obtain some related results, including a form of Zariski–Nagata purity for isocrystals.

We prove a Givental-style mirror theorem for toric Deligne–Mumford stacks ${\mathcal{X}}$. This determines the genus-zero Gromov–Witten invariants of ${\mathcal{X}}$ in terms of an explicit hypergeometric function, called the $I$-function, that takes values in the Chen–Ruan orbifold cohomology of ${\mathcal{X}}$.

In number theory, the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) conjecture for a Selmer group relates the corank of a Selmer group of an elliptic curve over a number field to the order of zero of the associated $L$-function $L(E, s)$ at $s=1$. We study its modulo two version called the parity conjecture. The parity conjecture when a prime number $p$ is a good ordinary reduction prime was proven by Nekovar. We prove it when a prime number $p>3$ is a good supersingular reduction prime.

The main goal of the paper is to give explicit formulas for the fundamental classes of Schubert subschemes in Lagrangian and orthogonal Grassmannians of maximal isotropic subbundles as well as some globalizations of them. The used geometric tools overlap appropriate desingularizations of such Schubert subschemes and Gysin maps for such Grassmannian bundles. The main algebraic tools are provided by the families of $\tilde{Q}$- and $\tilde{P}$-polynomials introduced and investigated in the present paper. The key technical result of the paper is the computation of the class of the (relative) diagonal in isotropic Grassmannian bundles based on the orthogonality property of $\tilde{Q}$- and $\tilde{P}$-polynomials. Some relationships with quaternionic Schubert varieties and Schubert polynomials for classical groups are also discussed.

A new family of Hamiltonian-minimal Lagrangian tori in the complex Euclidean plane is constructed. They are the first known unstable ones and are characterized in terms of being the only Hamiltonian-minimal Lagrangian tori (with non-parallel mean curvature vector) in $C^2$ admitting a one-parameter group of isometries.

For p≥3 an odd prime and a nonnegative integer r≤p−2, we prove a conjecture of Breuil on lattices in semi-stable representations, that is, the anti-equivalence of categories between the category of strongly divisible lattices of weight r and the category of Galois stable -lattices in semi-stable p-adic Galois representations with Hodge–Tate weights in {0,…,r}.

An irreducible representation of the extended affine Lie algebra of type $A_{n-1}$ coordinatized by a quantum torus of ν variables is constructed by using the Fock space for the principal vertex operator realization of the affine Lie algebra ${\widetilde{gl}_{n}$.

We prove a global Torelli theorem for pairs $(Y,D)$ where $Y$ is a smooth projective rational surface and $D\in |-K_{Y}|$ is a cycle of rational curves, as conjectured by Friedman in 1984. In addition, we construct natural universal families for such pairs.

We study the cones of pseudoeffective and nef cycles of higher codimension on the self product of an elliptic curve with complex multiplication, and on the product of a very general abelian surface with itself. In both cases, we find for instance the existence of nef classes that are not pseudoeffective, answering in the negative a question raised by Grothendieck in correspondence with Mumford. We also discuss several problems and questions for further investigation.

Gromov–Witten invariants have been constructed to be deformation invariant, but their behavior under other transformations is subtle. We show that logarithmic Gromov–Witten invariants are also invariant under appropriately defined logarithmic modifications.

We show that recently constructed invariants of 3-dimensional manifolds and of hyperkähler manifolds (L. Rozansky and E. witten) come from characteristic classes of foliations and from Gelfand-fuks cohomology.

Bott–Samelson varieties are an important tool in geometric representation theory [1, 3, 10, 25]. They were originally defined as desingularizations of Schubert varieties and share many of the properties of Schubert varieties. They have an action of a Borel subgroup, and the projective coordinate ring of a Bott–Samelson variety splits into certain generalized Demazure modules (which also appear in other contexts [22, 23]). Standard Monomial Theory, developed by Seshadri and the first author [15, 16], and recently completed by the second author [20], gives explicit bases for the Demazure modules associated to Schubert varieties. In this paper, we extend the techniques of [20] to give explicit bases for the generalized Demazure modules associated to Bott–Samelson varieties, thus proving a strengthened form of the results announced by the first and third authors in [12] (see also [13]). We also obtain more elementary proofs of the cohomology vanishing theorems of Kumar [10] and Mathieu [25]; of the projective normality of Bott–Samelson varieties; and of the Demazure character formula.

For a number field K and a finite abelian group G, we determine the probabilities of various local completions of a random G-extension of K when extensions are ordered by conductor. In particular, for a fixed prime ℘ of K, we determine the probability that ℘ splits into r primes in a random G-extension of K that is unramified at ℘. We find that these probabilities are nicely behaved and mostly independent. This is in analogy to Chebotarev’s density theorem, which gives the probability that in a fixed extension a random prime of K splits into r primes in the extension. We also give the asymptotics for the number of G-extensions with bounded conductor. In fact, we give a class of extension invariants, including conductor, for which we obtain the same counting and probabilistic results. In contrast, we prove that neither the analogy with the Chebotarev probabilities nor the independence of probabilities holds when extensions are ordered by discriminant.
