Transactions accepts the following types of article:

• Article*
• Presidential Address*
• Brief Comment*
• Comment
• Editorial
• Introduction*
• Roundtable*

* For the purposes of Gold Open Access funding, this journal considers these article types to be research articles. All or part of the publication costs for these article types may be covered by one of the agreements Cambridge University Press has made to support open access. For authors not covered by an agreement, and without APC funding, please see this journal's open access options for instructions on how to request an APC waiver.

Transactions is a generalist historical journal. The Editors are keen to receive submissions on wide range of subjects, including research articles, focusing on historical subjects from late antiquity to the present day, and contributions to our Common Room.

The Common Room is designed to be a space for experimentation and provocation. Examples of possible submissions include:

• research-based articles relating to history pedagogy, especially in Higher Education;
• the role of historical understanding in policy making and community engagement;
• commentaries on historical research methods and practices;
• studies of historiographical trends and developments;
• perspectives from historians working outside Higher Education, and the connections between sectors such as heritage, museums or archives with academic history teaching and research;
• discussion and opinion pieces between historians on topical areas of debate.

Contributions can be reflective, speculative and thought-provoking; and they can draw on personal experience.

Please note: if you have an idea for the Common Room, we strongly recommend that you contact the Editors in advance. Submissions to the Common Room are subject to peer review.

Special Sections: the journal does not currently accept any further proposals for Special Sections.
