The list of age measurements given below was obtainedfrom December 1965 to October 1966, Nearly allarchaeologic samples dated come from Italianterritory, a few from Europe, Asia, and Africa. Someof the series continue or complete measurementspublished in previous lists (Rome II, III and IV)and refer to important deposits whose material, theresult of several excavation campaigns, has beensubmitted at different times to our laboratory. Allgeologic samples come from Italian territory.

Most of these analyses we obtained during 1966 withequipment and techniques previously employed.Methane from the higher numbered samples wasproduced in a bomb reactor at pressures up to 1000psi. Also, many smaller samples were counted in a700-ml vol counter at 2 atm pressure, which has abackground of 1.76 = .02 counts/min.

The following list of dates has been obtained since thecompilation of List II in December 1965. Proceduresof measurement are essentially unchanged from thosereported previously (SR I and SR II).

This paper is a direct continuation of Stockholm VI.The bone samples analyzed and published in this listare treated according to a method, modified(Sellstedt, Engstrand and Gejvall, 1966) anddescribed by Berger, Horney and Libby (1964).

This list reports routine measurements made at thislaboratory since the preparation of Texas IV.Samples numbered through Tx-309 were counted underthe supervision of Pearson, who left the laboratoryearly in 1966. Valastro, Associate Director sinceAugust, 1966, is responsible for samples beginningwith Tx-310. Laboratory administration and samplescreening have been handled by Davis, M. A. Tamers,formerly Director, resigned in 1966.

The following list covers some old measurements notincluded in previous lists and most of the samplesmeasured at the Uppsala C14 laboratorysince the last list (Uppsala V) except for all ofthe samples utilized for determining the increase ofthe C14/G12 ratio due toexplosion of nuclear devices, and except for morethan twenty samples measured for testing, storing,and pretreatment of Foraminifera

The following list covers the samples measured sinceautumn 1964, when Uppsala VI was written, todetermine the increase of theC14/C12 ratio due toexplosion of nuclear devices.

The measurements reported have been carried out during1966 in the Isotope Laboratory of the Institute ofGeophysics and Planetary Physics as a continuationof the UCLA date lists I through V. Samples wereanalyzed as CO2-gas at one atm in a 7.5 Lproportional counter with three energy channels. Theall-solid-state unit is supplied with high voltagefrom a remarkably stable and interference-freebattery source. Radiocarbon ages have beencalculated on the basis of a 5568-yr half-life aswas recommended by the Sixth InternationalC14 and H3 DatingConference, June 1965, in Pullman, Washington. Thestandard for the contemporary biosphere remains as95% of the count rate of NBS oxalic acid forradiocarbon laboratories. Background determinationshave been based on CO2 obtained frommarble. The error listed is always at least aone-sigma statistical counting error. In criticalcases C13/C12 isotope ratiomeasurements were made to correct the dates. Allsamples were subjected to accepted pretreatmentsdiffering in the individual cases to excludecontamination.

This list contains the results of measurements madeduring 1965 and 1966. Samples are counted in theform of acetylene gas, as previously, and agescomputed on the basis of the Libby half-life, 5568 ±30 yr. The error listed is always larger than theone-sigma statistical counting error commonly used,takes into account known uncertainty laboratoryfactors, but does not include external (field oratmospheric) variations.

This report summarizes the radiocarbon dates obtainedat the University of Wisconsin since November, 1965;the procedures followed and equipment used have beendescribed previously (Wisconsin II).

The dates reported have been calculated on theassumption of a half-life of 5568 yr forC14, 1950 as the reference year.Samples have normally been run at 3 atm pressure fora minimum of 15,000 counts. The standard deviationquoted includes only the 1σ of thecounting statistics of background, sample, andstandard counts.
