Summary

Skis swished,

Chests wheezed,

Clouds covered the sky,

Disaster struck,

Ilbis, the spirit of war, sang

Passions ran high…

As soon as

Bokhsogolloi Botur oburgu

Who has never been tamed

In the Middle World,

Whose father is Arjaman-Jarjaman,

Born as the chief

Of the rocky mountains

With eight peaks,

Accompanied by a ferocious whirlwind

And his hunting skis made of nine trees,

Stealthily snatched

With his enormous grasping hands

Darling Aitalyn Kuo

With the eight-bylas-long braid

And ran away.

The swift and fleet of foot black horse

Born standing on the border

Of the clear, white sky,

Was trying to wake up

His Toyon master, his destined friend,

For nine days and nights.

Then he ran aside and reared up repeatedly

And he kicked so hard the top of his head

Like a black boulder the size

Of a belly of a lying cow

Exploded into a myriad of pieces

And sparks erupted out

Of the eyes of the sleeping man …

The great giant of the Middle World

Woke up, looked right and left –

Dear Aitalyn Kuo

With the eight-bylas-long braid

Had disappeared

Without a trace…

He swayed

And jumped up,

Looked closely

Here and there –

The footprints

Of seven deer

On the ground and on the rocks

Were pointing

Directly to the south…

When the great giant of the Middle World

Saw that,

He uttered a wail,

Shouted,

Slapped his hips,

Gritted his teeth

And cried…

NURGUN BOTUR

‘What a disaster!

Now, has even the offspring

Of the Tungus Arjaman-Jarjaman

Come and offended us?

The wild hawks

Of the dense forest,

The animals

Of the eight-peaked rocky mountains

Lying in dens,

The creeping skunks,

You have disturbed

An awesome

And headstrong youth,

Who will bathe in

Your fresh blood,

You have enraged

Your obstinate friend…

I will trace you

By your warm tracks

Left on the melting ground,

I will find you

By your cold trail

Left on the frozen ground,

I will catch you

Immediately,

I will rip open your veins,

With my bare hands

I will bridle your gluttonous gob,

I will make you kneel,

You just wait and see

Do not grieve for me,

Grieve for yourself !’
