Despite being one of the rarest felids in the world the EndangeredBornean bay cat Catopuma badia has received littleconservation attention. Most information consists of historicalrecords, morphological descriptions, and anecdotes from varioussources. During 2003–2006 we undertook surveys using cameratrapping, interviews and field observations, to determine thespecies’ distribution and document any threats to its persistence. We also examined museum specimens and completed a thoroughliterature review, collecting 15 additional geographic recordsthroughout Borneo. Our results show that opportunistic hunting andland use changes are the main threats to the bay cat, and we makerecommendations for its conservation.
