A glimpse is given of a DHSS sponsored six weeks tour of psychiatric facilities in North America and a WHO Fellowship for a month in Scandinavia to study the institutional management of mentally abnormal offenders. The 33 places visited (Canada 3, U.S.A. 8, Denmark 10, Norway 8, Sweden 4) included prisons, psychiatric hospitals, health service and WHO headquarters, and university departments of forensic psychiatry and criminology.
