Cetomimus gillii Goode & Bean, 1895 (Cetomimiformes: Cetomimidae): range extension and first record in the Tropical Eastern Pacific

Abstract

The whalefish Cetomimus gillii is reported for the first time in the Tropical Eastern Pacific on the basis of a single specimen captured from off Costa Rica. This new record represents the northernmost occurrence of the species in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. A brief diagnosis and a photograph of the specimen, as well as comparative morphometric and meristic data from all species of the genus, are given.
