Roger Cook is currently Head of Information at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. He started out in libraries in 1987 at the Royal Society of Medicine. In 1990 he moved on to the tax library at Coopers & Lybrand and during his time there he completed his post-graduate studies in librarianship. Following this he moved to the late, lamented Turner Kenneth Brown and was there until its disappearance in 1995, at which time he moved on to become librarian at Mayer, Brown & Platt, where he has remained, becoming Head of Information following the firm's combination with Rowe & Maw in February 2002.

So Lawtel has become part of the ever-growing empire that is Sweet & Maxwell. Their duopoly with Butterworths extends and the poor librarian has one less independent place to go to for information. But the question is, how will this affect us in our daily lives? Will we see this very good service swallowed up and become part of Westlaw or will it remain functioning independently?
