Extract

On June 20th 1963 a new law on fines was enacted. The purpose was to faciliate the paying of fines in money, and thus reduce the number of those imprisoned for unpaid fines. The authorities can now provide for a term of payment, and also permit the payment in several instalments. Furthermore, it is possible to pay the fine in prison while serving a sentence for unpaid fines, with the term being correspondingly shortened.
