Montmorillonites from various parts of the world have been tested. The maininterest was focussed on the colloidal sections of the clay from which theheavy impurities were separated by dispersion and sedimentation. Use wasmade of the gold-shadow technique first described by Wyckoff to estimate thethickness of plates from the angle of shadowing.
