Wicked problems, such as global plastic pollution, require innovative and creative solutions that engage a wide range of stakeholders to work collaboratively and galvanise systemic change. We need novel approaches to materials development, product design, and waste prevention. As researchers, we need to work with communities, industry and policy makers to identify how to shift from a linear economy mindset to more sustainable circular models, addressing the root causes and not just the symptoms of plastic pollution. This collection brings together an eclectic set of articles from a range of disciplines which employ innovative and creative thinking and problem-solving to the problem of plastic pollution.
