Individuals with first-episode psychosis (FEP) face markedly increased excess mortality, yet the long-term trends and key contributing factors remain insufficiently characterized. This study aimed to examine long-term mortality patterns, standardized mortality ratios (SMRs), and associated factors in a FEP cohort.
Methods
This population-based cohort study included 1,389 individuals diagnosed with FEP, followed for up to 25 years. Mortality outcomes were obtained from Hong Kong’s centralized hospital database (CMS) and coroner’s court reports, with SMRs calculated. Baseline sociodemographic and clinical, as well as long-term treatment-related factors of all-cause, natural, and unnatural mortality were analyzed.
Results
Among 1,389 participants, 137 deaths (9.86%) occurred during the follow-up period with the overall SMR of 6.56 (95% CI, 5.50–7.71). The cumulative incidence rate of unnatural mortality increased sharply over the first 10 years and that of the natural cause of death started to increase after the first decade of the illness. Male gender and poorer social functioning were associated with increased all-cause mortality risk, while male gender, lower education, and baseline hospitalization raised unnatural mortality risk. Greater monthly antipsychotic variability during the first 10 years increased all-cause mortality risk in the period after the initial 10 years.
Conclusions
This 25-year follow-up study of FEP highlighted the changes in the long-term mortality pattern of FEP and thus the phase-specific needs of individuals with FEP. Therefore, it is important to integrate physical care into mental health services, as well as stage-specific and individualized care for patients with psychotic disorders to reduce long-term excess mortality.
This study investigated the cylindrically divergent Rayleigh–Taylor instability (RTI) on a liquid–gas interface and its dependence on initial conditions. A novel hydrophobic technique was developed to generate a two-dimensional water–air interface with controlled initial conditions. The experimental configuration utilised high-pressure air injection to produce uniform circumferential acceleration. Amplitude measurements over time revealed that the cylindrical RTI growth depends strongly on the azimuthal wavenumber. Experimental results demonstrated that surface tension significantly suppresses the liquid–gas cylindrical RTI, even inducing a freeze-out and oscillatory perturbation growth – a phenomenon observed for the first time. Spectrum analysis of the interface contours demonstrated that the cylindrical RTI evolves in a weakly nonlinear regime. Linear and weakly nonlinear models were derived to accurately predict the time-varying interface amplitudes and high-order modes. The linear model was further used to determine conditions for unstable, freeze-out and oscillatory solutions of the cylindrically divergent RTI. These findings offer valuable insights into manipulating hydrodynamic instabilities in contracting/expanding geometries using surface tension.
Yiyang Dahegu rice (YyDHG) is an important agricultural specialty of Yiyang County, Jiangxi Province, and it is also a significant component of the local cultural and economic development. In this experiment, 89 samples of Dahegu rice (DHG) were collected from Jiangxi Province, including 52 samples of YyDHG and 37 samples of DHG from other regions within Jiangxi Province (oDHG). Comprehensive analysis was conducted using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, field phenotypic observation, population structure analysis and quality analysis. The results of variety identification indicated that the 89 samples actually comprised 52 distinct varieties, including 19 varieties of YyDHG. Population analysis has revealed rich genetic diversity among DHG varieties within Jiangxi Province, yet no significant subpopulation differentiation was observed between YyDHG and oDHG. Quality experiments demonstrated that YyDHG exhibits significant differences in appearance quality from oDHG, but no notable differences in milling quality or cooked taste and flavour. This suggests that the competitiveness of YyDHG in the market may not entirely depend on its unique quality characteristics, but rather more on its cultural value and brand effect. This experiment conducted a comprehensive analysis of the variety characteristics, genetic diversity and quality traits of YyDHG. Not only does it provide a scientific basis for the breeding and germplasm resource conservation of YyDHG, but it also holds positive implications for promoting the development of its industry.
Experimental investigation of the Rayleigh–Taylor instability (RTI) and its dependence on initial conditions has been challenging, primarily due to the difficulty of creating a well-defined gaseous interface. To address this, a novel soap film technique was developed to create a discontinuous two-dimensional SF$_6$air interface with precisely controlled initial conditions. High-order modes were superimposed on a long-wavelength perturbation to study the influence of initial conditions on RTI evolution. Experiments conducted at Atwood numbers ranging from 0.26 to 0.66 revealed that bubble growth shows a weak dependence on both initial conditions and Atwood numbers, whereas spike growth is more influenced by these factors. Spike growth accelerates as the wavenumber of the imposed high-order modes decreases and/or the Atwood number increases. To quantify these effects, a variation on the previously developed potential flow model was applied, capturing the suppression of high-order modes and Atwood number dependence on RTI growth. In turbulent flow, the self-similar factors of bubbles and spikes exhibit minimal sensitivity to initial conditions. However, in relation to the Atwood number, the self-similar factors of bubbles (or spikes) demonstrate negligible (or significant) dependence. Comparisons with literature revealed that two-dimensional flows yield lower self-similar factors than three-dimensional flows. Furthermore, the discontinuity of the initial interface in this study, achieved through the soap film technique, results in faster spike growth compared with previous studies involving a diffusive initial interface. These findings provide critical insights into the nonlinear dynamics of RTI and underscore the importance of well-characterised initial conditions in experimental studies.
This study aimed to examine the relationship between fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) and depressive symptoms, measured by Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI) scores and investigate the moderating role of smoking.
Methods:
This study involved 156 Chinese adult males (78 smokers and 78 non-smokers) from September 2014 to January 2016. The severity of depressive symptoms was evaluated using the BDI scores. Spearman rank correlation analyses were used to investigate the relationship between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) FGF19 levels and BDI scores. Additionally, moderation and simple slope analyses were applied to assess the moderating effect of smoking on the relationship between the two.
Results:
FGF19 levels were significantly associated with BDI scores across all participants (r = 0.26, p < 0.001). Smokers had higher CSF FGF19 levels and BDI scores compared to non-smokers (445.9 ± 272.7 pg/ml vs 229.6 ± 162.7 pg/ml, p < 0.001; 2.7 ± 3.0 vs 1.3 ± 2.4, p < 0.001). CSF FGF19 levels were positively associated with BDI scores in non-smokers (r = 0.27, p = 0.015), but no similar association was found among smokers (r = −0.11, p = 0.32). Linear regression revealed a positive correlation between FGF19 and BDI scores (β = 0.173, t = 2.161, 95% CI: 0.015–0.331, p < 0.05), which was negatively impacted by smoking (β = −0.873, t = −4.644, 95% CI: −1.244 to −0.501, p < 0.001).
Conclusion:
These results highlight the potential role of FGF19 in individuals at risk for presence of or further development of depressive symptoms and underscore the importance of considering smoking status when examining this association.
Patients with schizophrenia have a significantly elevated risk of mortality. Clozapine is effective for treatment-resistant schizophrenia, but its use is limited by side-effects. Understanding its association with mortality risk is crucial.
Aims
To investigate the associations of clozapine with all-cause and cause-specific mortality risk in schizophrenia patients.
Method
In this 18-year population-based cohort study, we retrieved electronic health records of schizophrenia patients from all public hospitals in Hong Kong. Clozapine users (ClozUs) comprised schizophrenia patients who initiated clozapine treatment between 2003 and 2012, with the index date set at clozapine initiation. Comparators were non-clozapine antipsychotic users (Non-ClozUs) with the same diagnosis who had never received a clozapine prescription. They were 1:2 propensity score matched with demographic characteristics and physical and psychiatric comorbidities. ClozUs were further defined according to continuation of clozapine use and co-prescription of other antipsychotics (polypharmacy). Accelerated failure time (AFT) models were used to estimate the risk of all-cause and cause-specific mortality (i.e. suicide, cardiovascular disease, infection and cancer).
Results
This study included 9,456 individuals (mean (s.d.) age at the index date: 39.13 (12.92) years; 50.73% females; median (interquartile range) follow-up time: 12.37 (9.78–15.22) years), with 2020 continuous ClozUs, 1132 discontinuous ClozUs, 4326 continuous non-ClozUs and 1978 discontinuous Non-ClozUs. Results from adjusted AFT models showed that continuous ClozUs had a lower risk of suicide mortality (acceleration factor 3.01; 99% CI: 1.41–6.44) compared with continuous Non-ClozUs. Continuous ClozUs with co-prescription of other antipsychotics exhibited lower risks of suicide mortality (acceleration factor 3.67; 1.41–9.60) and all-cause mortality (acceleration factor 1.42; 1.07–1.88) compared with continuous Non-ClozUs. No associations were found between clozapine and other cause-specific mortalities.
Conclusions
These results add to the existing evidence on the effectiveness of clozapine, particularly its anti-suicide effects, and emphasise the need for continuous clozapine use for suitable patients and the possible benefit of clozapine polypharmacy.
The selection of random sampling points is crucial for the path quality generated by probabilistic roadmap (PRM) algorithm. Increasing the number of sampling points can enhance path quality. However, it may also lead to extended convergence time and reduced computational efficiency. Therefore, an improved probabilistic roadmap algorithm (TL-PRM) is proposed based on topological discrimination and lazy collision. TL-PRM algorithm first generates a circular grid area among start and goal points. Then, it constructs topological nodes. Subsequently, elliptical sampling areas are created between each pair of adjacent topological nodes. Random sampling points are generated within these areas. These sampling points are interconnected using a layer connection strategy. An initial path is generated using a delayed collision strategy. The path is then adjusted by modifying the nodes on the convex outer edges to avoid obstacles. Finally, a reconnection strategy is employed to optimize the path. This reduces the number of path waypoints. In dynamic environments, TL-PRM algorithm employs pose adjustment strategies for semi-static and dynamic obstacles. It can use either the same or opposite pose adjustments to avoid dynamic obstacles. Experimental results indicate that TL-PRM algorithm reduces the average number of generated sampling points by 70.9% and average computation time by 62.1% compared with PRM* and PRM-Astar algorithms. In winding and narrow passage maps, TL-PRM algorithm significantly decreases the number of sampling points and shortens convergence time. In dynamic environments, the algorithm can adjust its pose orientation in real time. This allows it to safely reach the goal point. TL-PRM algorithm provides an effective solution for reducing the generation of sampling points in PRM algorithm.
Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease that imposes a significant burden on society. The eggs are the primary pathogenic factor in schistosomiasis, and their accumulation in liver could lead to the formation of granulomas and liver fibrosis. However, the metabolic changes in liver resulting from schistosomiasis remain poorly understood. We established a mouse model of schistosomiasis japonica, where the eggs accumulate in the liver and form egg granulomas. We used mass spectrometry imaging to analyze the differences in metabolites among various liver regions, including the liver tissue from normal mice, the liver area outside the granulomas in schistosomiasis mice, and the granuloma region in schistosomiasis mice. There were significant differences in metabolites between different liver regions, which enriched in metabolic pathways such as the biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, taurine and hypotaurine metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, purine metabolism, arachidonic acid metabolism, and bile secretion. In normal liver tissue, higher concentrations of oleic acid (FA (18:1)), eicosapentaenoic acid (FA (20:5)), and L-glutamine were observed. In liver regions outside the granulomas, D-glucose and pyruvic acid were elevated compared to those in normal mice. Taurine increased in the liver of schistosomiasis. Meanwhile, there were elevated uric acid and spermidine in the egg granulomas. We employed mass spectrometry imaging technology to investigate metabolic reprogramming in liver of Schistosoma japonicum-infected mice. We explored the spatial distribution of differential metabolites in liver of schistosomiasis including unsaturated fatty acids, taurine, glutamine, spermidine, and uric acid. Our research provides valuable insights for further elucidating metabolic reprogramming in schistosomiasis.
Machine learning (ML) models have been developed to identify randomised controlled trials (RCTs) to accelerate systematic reviews (SRs). However, their use has been limited due to concerns about their performance and practical benefits. We developed a high-recall ensemble learning model using Cochrane RCT data to enhance the identification of RCTs for rapid title and abstract screening in SRs and evaluated the model externally with our annotated RCT datasets. Additionally, we assessed the practical impact in terms of labour time savings and recall improvement under two scenarios: ML-assisted double screening (where ML and one reviewer screened all citations in parallel) and ML-assisted stepwise screening (where ML flagged all potential RCTs, and at least two reviewers subsequently filtered the flagged citations). Our model achieved twice the precision compared to the existing SVM model while maintaining a recall of 0.99 in both internal and external tests. In a practical evaluation with ML-assisted double screening, our model led to significant labour time savings (average 45.4%) and improved recall (average 0.998 compared to 0.919 for a single reviewer). In ML-assisted stepwise screening, the model performed similarly to standard manual screening but with average labour time savings of 74.4%. In conclusion, compared with existing methods, the proposed model can reduce workload while maintaining comparable recall when identifying RCTs during the title and abstract screening stages, thereby accelerating SRs. We propose practical recommendations to effectively apply ML-assisted manual screening when conducting SRs, depending on reviewer availability (ML-assisted double screening) or time constraints (ML-assisted stepwise screening).
This study aims to investigate the effects of the vine of Lonicera japonica Thunb (VLT) and marine-derived Bacillus amyloliquefaciens-9 (BA-9) supplementation on the growth performance, antioxidant capacity, and gut microbiota of goat kids. A total of 32 4-week-old kids were randomly assigned into four groups: a control group (CON), a group supplemented with 0.3% BA-9 (BA-9), a group supplemented with 2% VLT (VLT), and a group supplemented with both 0.3% BA-9 and 2% VLT (MIX). The results indicated that VLT supplementation significantly increased both average daily (P < 0.001) and total weight gain (TWG) (P < 0.001), while BA-9 alone had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the average daily and TWG. Biomarker analysis of oxidative stress revealed that supplementation of VLT or BA-9 alone enhanced antioxidant capacity. The MIX group showing a higher total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) compared with the CON, VLT, and BA-9 groups (P < 0.05). Plasma albumin (ALB) levels were significantly increased in the both VLT and BA-9 groups. Microbiota analysis revealed significant differences in α-diversity and β-diversity between the MIX and CON groups, with specific genera such as Prevotellaceae_UCG.004 and Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group negatively correlated with average daily gain (ADG), while Alistipes was positively correlated with T-AOC. These findings suggest that the combined supplementation of VLT and BA-9 can significantly enhance growth performance and antioxidant capacity in goat kids by modulating the composition of gut microbiota and reducing oxidative stress.

The associations between obesity and liver diseases are complex and diverse. To explore the causal relationships between obesity and liver diseases, we applied two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) and multivariable MR analysis. The data of exposures (BMI and WHRadjBMI) and outcomes (liver diseases and liver function biomarker) were obtained from the open genome-wide association study database. A two-sample MR study revealed that the genetically predicted BMI and WHRadjBMI were associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver fibrosis and autoimmune hepatitis. Obesity was not associated with primary biliary cholangitis, liver failure, liver cell carcinoma, viral hepatitis and secondary malignant neoplasm of liver. A higher WHRadjBMI was associated with higher levels of biomarkers of lipid accumulation and metabolic disorders. These findings indicated independent causal roles of obesity in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver fibrosis and impaired liver metabolic function rather than in viral or autoimmune liver disease.
Childhood trauma (CT) increases rates of psychiatric disorders and symptoms, however, the lasting effect of CT into adulthood has little exploration using large-scale samples.
Objectives
This study estimated the prevalence of CT in a large sample of Chinese young adults, examining the risk factors of current psychological symptoms among those with CT experiences.
Methods
117,769 college students were divided into CT and non-CT groups. The propensity score matching method balanced the confounding sociodemographic factors between the two groups, compared to 16 self-reported psychiatric disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety, eating disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, autism, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder), and seven current psychiatric symptoms. Hierarchical regression employed the significant risk factors of the seven current psychiatric symptoms.
Results
The prevalence of CT among young adults was 28.76% (95% CI: 28.47–29.04%). Youths with CT experiences reported higher psychiatric disorder rates and current symptom scores (P < 0.001). Sociodemographic factors (females, family disharmony, low socioeconomic status, poor relationship with parents, lower father’s education level) and lifestyle factors (smoking status, alcohol consumption, lack of exercise) were significantly associated with current psychiatric symptoms.
Results
Public health departments and colleges should develop strategies to promote mental health among those who have experienced CT.
Seed germination is a pivotal period of plant growth and development. This process can be divided into four major stages, swelling absorption, seed coat dehiscence, radicle emergence and radicle elongation. Cupressus gigantea, a tree native to Tibet, China, is characterized by its resistance to stresses such as cold, and drought, and has a high economic and ecological value. Nevertheless, given its unique geographic location, its seeds are difficult to germinate. Therefore, it is crucial to explore the mechanisms involved in seed germination in this species to improve the germination efficiency of its seeds, thereby protecting this high-quality resource. Here, our findings indicate that seed germination was enhanced when exposed to a 6-h/8-h light/dark photoperiod, coupled with a temperature of 20°C. Furthermore, the application of exogenous GA3 (1 mg/ml, about 2.9 mM) stimulated the germination of C. gigantea seeds. Subsequently, proteomics was used to detect changes in protein expression during the four stages of seed germination. We identified 34 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs), including 13 at the radicle pre-emergence stage, and 17 at the radicle elongation stage. These DEPs were classified into eight functional groups, cytoskeletal proteins, energy metabolism, membrane transport, stress response, molecular chaperones, amino acid metabolism, antioxidant system and ABA signalling pathway. Most of them were found to be closely associated with amino acid metabolism. Combined, these findings indicate that, along with temperature and light, exogenous GA3 can increase the germination efficiency of C. gigantea seeds. Our study also offers insights into the changes in protein expression patterns in C. gigantea seeds during germination.
The comorbidity between schizophrenia (SCZ) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) observed in epidemiological studies is partially attributed to genetic overlap, but the magnitude of shared genetic components and the causality relationship between them remains unclear.
Methods
By leveraging large-scale genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics for SCZ, IBD, ulcerative colitis (UC), and Crohn's disease (CD), we conducted a comprehensive genetic pleiotropic analysis to uncover shared loci, genes, or biological processes between SCZ and each of IBD, UC, and CD, independently. Univariable and multivariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were applied to assess the causality across these two disorders.
Results
SCZ genetically correlated with IBD (rg = 0.14, p = 3.65 × 10−9), UC (rg = 0.15, p = 4.88 × 10−8), and CD (rg = 0.12, p = 2.27 × 10−6), all surpassed the Bonferroni correction. Cross-trait meta-analysis identified 64, 52, and 66 significantly independent loci associated with SCZ and IBD, UC, and CD, respectively. Follow-up gene-based analysis found 11 novel pleiotropic genes (KAT5, RABEP1, ELP5, CSNK1G1, etc) in all joint phenotypes. Co-expression and pathway enrichment analysis illustrated those novel genes were mainly involved in core immune-related signal transduction and cerebral disorder-related pathways. In univariable MR, genetic predisposition to SCZ was associated with an increased risk of IBD (OR 1.11, 95% CI 1.07–1.15, p = 1.85 × 10−6). Multivariable MR indicated a causal effect of genetic liability to SCZ on IBD risk independent of Actinobacteria (OR 1.11, 95% CI 1.06–1.16, p = 1.34 × 10−6) or BMI (OR 1.11, 95% CI 1.04–1.18, p = 1.84 × 10−3).
Conclusions
We confirmed a shared genetic basis, pleiotropic loci/genes, and causal relationship between SCZ and IBD, providing novel insights into the biological mechanism and therapeutic targets underlying these two disorders.
A comprehensive direct numerical simulation of electroconvection (EC) turbulence caused by strong unipolar charge injection in a two-dimensional cavity is performed. The EC turbulence has strong fluctuations and intermittency in the closed cavity. Several dominant large-scale structures are found, including two vertical main rolls and a single primary roll. The flow mode significantly influences the charge transport efficiency. A nearly $Ne \sim T^{1/2}$ scaling stage is observed, and the optimal $Ne$ increment is related to the mode with two vertical rolls, while the single roll mode decreases the charge transport efficiency. As the flow strength increases, EC turbulence transitions from an electric force-dominated mode to an inertia-dominated mode. The former utilizes the Coulomb force more effectively and allocates more energy to convection. The vertical mean profiles of charge, electric field and energy budget provide intuitive information on the spatial energy distribution. With the aid of the energy-box technique, a detailed energy transport evolution is illustrated with changing electric Rayleigh numbers. This exploration of EC turbulence can help explain more complicated electrokinetic turbulence mechanisms and the successful utilization of Fourier mode decomposition and energy-box techniques is expected to benefit future EC studies.
The aim of the present study was to examine effects of black liquor-montmorillonite (BL-Mnt) complexes on the mechanical and thermal properties of epichlorohydrin rubber. Considering the stability effect of lignin and the barrier property of clay minerals, a significant enhancement of thermo-oxidative aging properties of ECO/BL-Mnt composites was expected. Poly (epichlorohydrin-co-ethylene oxide) (ECO) composites filled with BL-Mnt complex were prepared by mechanical mixing on a two-roll mill. The ECO/BL-Mnt composites were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Both XRD and TEM data showed that the filler particles were well dispersed throughout the ECO/BL-Mnt composites. The tensile strength, elongation at break, and 100% modulus of the rubber composite were 14.0 MPa, 457%, and 3.9 MPa, respectively, at a 50% loading of BL-Mnt. The retention of tensile strength was 99% after thermal oxidative aging in an air-circulating oven for 72 h at 100°C. Evidence indicated that ECO/BL-Mnt composites with good mechanical properties and thermo-oxidative aging properties were obtained.
High temperature and a large salt content weaken the surface hydration ability of clay particles in drilling fluid, reduce zeta potential, agglomerate clay particles, increase particle size, and destroy the stability of drilling mud. A filtrate reducer is required, therefore, to maintain the zeta potential of the clay, prevent the agglomeration of clay particles, and maintain good performance of the drilling mud at high temperature and high salt content. To prepare temperature- and salt-resistant polymer filtrate reducer, a betaine monomer was synthesized and copolymerized with a conventional monomer. A betaine monomer 3-(dimethyl (4-vinyl benzyl) ammonia) propyl sulfonate (DVBAPS) was synthesized and then used to create a copolymer filtrate reducer. The copolymer filtrate reducer, referred to as PAAAND, was prepared by free radical copolymerization with 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid, acrylic acid, N-vinyl pyrrolidone, acrylamide, and DVBAPS. The optimum synthesis conditions were determined by single factor evaluation, and the chemical structure of the PAAAND was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Results from particle-size distribution and zeta-potential measurements showed that PAAAND increased the zeta potential of clay particles and the distribution width of particles size, which served to maintain the stability of the drilling mud under high-temperature and high-salt conditions. The results of scanning electron microscopy showed that PAAAND made the filter cake formed by clay particles smoother and denser, which reduced filtration loss. The reduction in filtrate loss continued even after aging at high temperature, and, thus, PAAAND performed better than commercial products.
COVID-19 lockdowns increased the risk of mental health problems, especially for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, despite its importance, little is known about the protective factors for ASD children during the lockdowns.
Methods
Based on the Shanghai Autism Early Developmental Cohort, 188 ASD children with two visits before and after the strict Omicron lockdown were included; 85 children were lockdown-free, while 52 and 51 children were under the longer and the shorter durations of strict lockdown, respectively. We tested the association of the lockdown group with the clinical improvement and also the modulation effects of parent/family-related factors on this association by linear regression/mixed-effect models. Within the social brain structures, we examined the voxel-wise interaction between the grey matter volume and the identified modulation effects.
Results
Compared with the lockdown-free group, the ASD children experienced the longer duration of strict lockdown had less clinical improvement (β = 0.49, 95% confidence interval (CI) [0.19–0.79], p = 0.001) and this difference was greatest for social cognition (2.62 [0.94–4.30], p = 0.002). We found that this association was modulated by parental agreeableness in a protective way (−0.11 [−0.17 to −0.05], p = 0.002). This protective effect was enhanced in the ASD children with larger grey matter volumes in the brain's mentalizing network, including the temporal pole, the medial superior frontal gyrus, and the superior temporal gyrus.
Conclusions
This longitudinal neuroimaging cohort study identified that the parental agreeableness interacting with the ASD children's social brain development reduced the negative impact on clinical symptoms during the strict lockdown.
Dietary antioxidant indices (DAI) may be potentially associated with relative telomere length (RTL) of leucocytes. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between DAI and RTL. A cross-sectional study involving 1656 participants was conducted. A generalised linear regression model and a restricted cubic spline model were used to assess the correlation of DAI and its components with RTL. Generalised linear regression analysis revealed that DAI (β = 0·005, P = 0·002) and the intake of its constituents vitamin C (β = 0·043, P = 0·027), vitamin E (β = 0·088, P < 0·001), Se (β = 0·075, P = 0·003), and Zn (β = 0·075, P = 0·023) were significantly and positively correlated with RTL. Sex-stratified analysis showed that DAI (β = 0·006, P = 0·005) and its constituents vitamin E (β = 0·083, P = 0·012), Se (β = 0·093, P = 0·006), and Zn (β = 0·092, P = 0·034) were significantly and positively correlated with RTL among females. Meanwhile, among males, only vitamin E intake (β = 0·089, P = 0·013) was significantly and positively associated with RTL. Restricted cubic spline analysis revealed linear positive associations between DAI and its constituents’ (vitamin E, Se and Zn) intake and RTL in the total population. Sex-stratified analysis revealed a linear positive correlation between DAI and its constituents’ (vitamin E, Se and Zn) intake and RTL in females. Our study found a significant positive correlation between DAI and RTL, with sex differences.
