This paper contributes to the regular covers of a complete bipartite graph minus a matching, denoted $K_{n,n}-nK_{2}$ , whose fiber-preserving automorphism group acts 2-arc-transitively. All such covers, when the covering transformation group $K$ is either cyclic or $\mathbb{Z}_{p}^{2}$ with $p$ a prime, have been determined in Xu and Du [‘2-arc-transitive cyclic covers of $K_{n,n}-nK_{2}$ ’, J. Algebraic Combin.39 (2014), 883–902] and Xu et al. [‘2-arc-transitive regular covers of $K_{n,n}-nK_{2}$ with the covering transformation group $\mathbb{Z}_{p}^{2}$ ’, Ars. Math. Contemp.10 (2016), 269–280]. Finally, this paper gives a classification of all such covers for $K\cong \mathbb{Z}_{p}^{3}$ with $p$ a prime.

In this work, we review some properties of twisted partial actions of Hopf algebras on unital algebras and give necessary and sufficient conditions for a twisted partial action to have a globalization. We also elaborate a series of examples.

Let $H=-\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E5}+V$ be a Schrödinger operator with some general signed potential $V$ . This paper is mainly devoted to establishing the $L^{q}$ -boundedness of the Riesz transform $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FB}H^{-1/2}$ for $q>2$ . We mainly prove that under certain conditions on $V$ , the Riesz transform $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FB}H^{-1/2}$ is bounded on $L^{q}$ for all $q\in [2,p_{0})$ with a given $2<p_{0}<n$ . As an application, the main result can be applied to the operator $H=-\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E5}+V_{+}-V_{-}$ , where $V_{+}$ belongs to the reverse Hölder class $B_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}}$ and $V_{-}\in L^{n/2,\infty }$ with a small norm. In particular, if $V_{-}=-\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FE}|x|^{-2}$ for some positive number $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FE}$ , $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FB}H^{-1/2}$ is bounded on $L^{q}$ for all $q\in [2,n/2)$ and $n>4$ .

This paper presents a structured study for abstract harmonic analysis of relative convolutions over canonical homogeneous spaces of semidirect product groups. Let $H,K$ be locally compact groups and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}:H\rightarrow \text{Aut}(K)$ be a continuous homomorphism. Let $G_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}}=H\ltimes _{\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}}K$ be the semidirect product of $H$ and $K$ with respect to $\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}$ and $G_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}}/H$ be the canonical homogeneous space (left coset space) of $G_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}}/H$ . We present a unified approach to the harmonic analysis of relative convolutions over the canonical homogeneous space $G_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}}/H$ .

Metric regularity theory lies at the very heart of variational analysis, a relatively new discipline whose appearance was, to a large extent, determined by the needs of modern optimization theory in which such phenomena as nondifferentiability and set-valued mappings naturally appear. The roots of the theory go back to such fundamental results of the classical analysis as the implicit function theorem, Sard theorem and some others. This paper offers a survey of the state of the art of some principal parts of the theory along with a variety of its applications in analysis and optimization.

An interchange ring, $(R,+,\bullet )$ , is an abelian group with a second binary operation defined so that the interchange law $(w+x)\bullet (y+z)=(w\bullet y)+(x\bullet z)$ holds. An interchange near ring is the same structure based on a group which may not be abelian. It is shown that each interchange (near) ring based on a group $G$ is formed from a pair of endomorphisms of $G$ whose images commute, and that all interchange (near) rings based on $G$ can be characterized in this manner. To obtain an associative interchange ring, the endomorphisms must be commuting idempotents in the endomorphism semigroup of $G$ . For $G$ a finite abelian group, we develop a group-theoretic analogue of the simultaneous diagonalization of idempotent linear operators and show that pairs of endomorphisms which yield associative interchange rings can be diagonalized and then put into a canonical form. A best possible upper bound of $4^{r}$ can be given for the number of distinct isomorphism classes of associative interchange rings based on a finite abelian group $A$ which is a direct sum of $r$ cyclic groups of prime power order. If $A$ is a direct sum of $r$ copies of the same cyclic group of prime power order, we show that there are exactly ${\textstyle \frac{1}{6}}(r+1)(r+2)(r+3)$ distinct isomorphism classes of associative interchange rings based on $A$ . Several examples are given and further comments are made about the general theory of interchange rings.

In this erratum we correct a mistake in Ho [‘On differential characteristic classes’, J. Aust. Math. Soc.99(1) (2015), 30–47].

We investigate properties which ensure that a given finite graph is the commuting graph of a group or semigroup. We show that all graphs on at least two vertices such that no vertex is adjacent to all other vertices is the commuting graph of some semigroup. Moreover, we obtain complete classifications of the graphs with an isolated vertex or edge that are the commuting graph of a group and the cycles that are the commuting graph of a centrefree semigroup.

We investigate the function $d_{\mathbf{A}}(n)$, which gives the size of a least size generating set for $\mathbf{A}^{n}$.

Let $F$ be a field of characteristic $p\geq 0$ and $G$ any group. In this article, the Engel property of the group of units of the group algebra $FG$ is investigated. We show that if $G$ is locally finite, then ${\mathcal{U}}(FG)$ is an Engel group if and only if $G$ is locally nilpotent and $G^{\prime }$ is a $p$ -group. Suppose that the set of nilpotent elements of $FG$ is finite. It is also shown that if $G$ is torsion, then ${\mathcal{U}}(FG)$ is an Engel group if and only if $G^{\prime }$ is a finite $p$ -group and $FG$ is Lie Engel, if and only if ${\mathcal{U}}(FG)$ is locally nilpotent. If $G$ is nontorsion but $FG$ is semiprime, we show that the Engel property of ${\mathcal{U}}(FG)$ implies that the set of torsion elements of $G$ forms an abelian normal subgroup of $G$ .

We prove that an operator system is (min, ess)-nuclear if its $C^{\ast }$ -envelope is nuclear. This allows us to deduce that an operator system associated to a generating set of a countable discrete group by Farenick et al. [‘Operator systems from discrete groups’, Comm. Math. Phys.329(1) (2014), 207–238] is (min, ess)-nuclear if and only if the group is amenable. We also make a detailed comparison between ess and other operator system tensor products and show that an operator system associated to a minimal generating set of a finitely generated discrete group (respectively, a finite graph) is (min, max)-nuclear if and only if the group is of order less than or equal to three (respectively, every component of the graph is complete).

To a Lie groupoid over a compact base $M$ , the associated group of bisection is an (infinite-dimensional) Lie group. Moreover, under certain circumstances one can reconstruct the Lie groupoid from its Lie group of bisections. In the present article we consider functorial aspects of these construction principles. The first observation is that this procedure is functorial (for morphisms fixing $M$ ). Moreover, it gives rise to an adjunction between the category of Lie groupoids over $M$ and the category of Lie groups acting on $M$ . In the last section we then show how to promote this adjunction to almost an equivalence of categories.

In an earlier paper, Romanowska, Ślusarski and Smith described a duality between the category of polytopes (finitely generated real convex sets considered as barycentric algebras) and a certain category of intersections of hypercubes, considered as barycentric algebras with additional constant operations. The present paper provides an extension of this duality to a much more general class of so-called quasipolytopes, that is, convex sets with polytopes as closures. The dual spaces of quasipolytopes are Płonka sums of open polytopes, which are considered as barycentric algebras with some additional operations. In constructing this duality, we use several known and new dualities: the Hofmann–Mislove–Stralka duality for semilattices; the Romanowska–Ślusarski–Smith duality for polytopes; a new duality for open polytopes; and a new duality for injective Płonka sums of polytopes.

In the ambient space of a semidirect product $\mathbb{R}^{2}\rtimes _{A}\mathbb{R}$, we consider a connected domain ${\rm\Omega}\subseteq \mathbb{R}^{2}\rtimes _{A}\{0\}$. Given a function $u:{\rm\Omega}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$, its ${\it\pi}$-graph is $\text{graph}(u)=\{(x,y,u(x,y))\mid (x,y,0)\in {\rm\Omega}\}$. In this paper we study the partial differential equation that $u$ must satisfy so that $\text{graph}(u)$ has prescribed mean curvature $H$. Using techniques from quasilinear elliptic equations we prove that if a ${\it\pi}$-graph has a nonnegative mean curvature function, then it satisfies some uniform height estimates that depend on ${\rm\Omega}$ and on the supremum the function attains on the boundary of ${\rm\Omega}$. When $\text{trace}(A)>0$, we prove that the oscillation of a minimal graph, assuming the same constant value $n$ along the boundary, tends to zero when $n\rightarrow +\infty$ and goes to $+\infty$ if $n\rightarrow -\infty$. Furthermore, we use these estimates, allied with techniques from Killing graphs, to prove the existence of minimal ${\it\pi}$-graphs assuming the value zero along a piecewise smooth curve ${\it\gamma}$ with endpoints $p_{1},\,p_{2}$ and having as boundary ${\it\gamma}\cup (\{p_{1}\}\times [0,\,+\infty ))\cup (\{p_{2}\}\times [0,\,+\infty ))$.

It is shown that, for any field $\mathbb{F}\subseteq \mathbb{R}$ , any ordered vector space structure of $\mathbb{F}^{n}$ with Riesz interpolation is given by an inductive limit of a sequence with finite stages $(\mathbb{F}^{n},\mathbb{F}_{\geq 0}^{n})$ (where $n$ does not change). This relates to a conjecture of Effros and Shen, since disproven, which is given by the same statement, except with $\mathbb{F}$ replaced by the integers, $\mathbb{Z}$ . Indeed, it shows that although Effros and Shen’s conjecture is false, it is true after tensoring with $\mathbb{Q}$ .

We study the variational problem for $N$ -parallel curves on a Finsler surface by means of exterior differential systems using Griffiths’ method. We obtain the conditions when these curves are extremals of a length functional and write the explicit form of Euler–Lagrange equations for this type of variational problem.
