Intellectual Disabilities (ID) are common and children or young people with ID may present to child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) for assessment or for the treatment of co-occurring conditions. This chapter will cover definitions, the presentation of ID in children and young people with a focus on the clinical assessment, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, common co-occurring conditions and evidence-based treatments. The current state of research in this area and future directions will also be discussed.
