For two $\sigma $-unital $C^*$-algebras, we consider two equivalence bimodules over them, respectively. Then, by taking the crossed products by the equivalence bimodules, we get two inclusions of $C^*$-algebras. Furthermore, we suppose that one of the inclusions of $C^*$-algebras is irreducible, that is, the relative commutant of one of the $\sigma $-unital $C^*$-algebras in the multiplier $C^*$-algebra of the crossed product is trivial. We will give a sufficient and necessary condition that the two inclusions are strongly Morita equivalent. Applying this result, we will compute the Picard group of a unital inclusion of unital $C^*$-algebras induced by an equivalence bimodule over the unital $C^*$-algebra under the assumption that the unital inclusion of unital $C^*$-algebras is irreducible.

In this paper we prove a semistable version of the variational Tate conjecture for divisors in crystalline cohomology, showing that for $k$ a perfect field of characteristic $p$, a rational (logarithmic) line bundle on the special fibre of a semistable scheme over $k\unicode[STIX]{x27E6}t\unicode[STIX]{x27E7}$ lifts to the total space if and only if its first Chern class does. The proof is elementary, using standard properties of the logarithmic de Rham–Witt complex. As a corollary, we deduce similar algebraicity lifting results for cohomology classes on varieties over global function fields. Finally, we give a counter-example to show that the variational Tate conjecture for divisors cannot hold with $\mathbb{Q}_{p}$-coefficients.

Using the descent spectral sequence for a Galois extension of ring spectra, we compute the Picard group of the higher real $K$ -theory spectra of Hopkins and Miller at height $n=p-1$ , for $p$ an odd prime. More generally, we determine the Picard groups of the homotopy fixed points spectra $E_{n}^{hG}$ , where $E_{n}$ is Lubin–Tate $E$ -theory at the prime $p$ and height $n=p-1$ , and $G$ is any finite subgroup of the extended Morava stabilizer group. We find that these Picard groups are always cyclic, generated by the suspension.

Let (R,m) be a Noetherian local ring and UR=Spec(R)−{m} be the punctured spectrum of R. Gabber conjectured that if R is a complete intersection of dimension three, then the abelian group Pic(UR) is torsion-free. In this note we prove Gabber’s statement for the hypersurface case. We also point out certain connections between Gabber’s conjecture, Van den Bergh’s notion of non-commutative crepant resolutions and some well-studied questions in homological algebra over local rings.

We define stacks of uniform cyclic covers of Brauer–Severi schemes, proving that they can be realized as quotient stacks of open subsets of representations, and compute the Picard group for the open substacks parametrizing smooth uniform cyclic covers. Moreover, we give an analogous description for stacks parametrizing triple cyclic covers of Brauer–Severi schemes of rank 1 that are not necessarily uniform, and give a presentation of the Picard group of the substacks corresponding to smooth triple cyclic covers.

In this paper we introduce a generalization of Picard groups to derived categories of algebras. First we study general properties of this group. Then we consider easy particular algebras such as commutative algebras, where we reduce to the classical case. Finally, we define and study a homomorphism of the braid group to the Picard group of the derived category of a Brauer tree algebra. In the smallest case we show that this homomorphism is injective and that its image is of finite index.
